cat harness

Hiya

I am going to be honest, i am very worried about the idea of letting Jinxy out, i know it is a normal worry, and some people still put their cats out during the day and they come in through the day, and in at night time. But i have been so used to having dogs through out my life, of which obviously do not wonder outside with out an owner.

I have considered getting him a harness so we can all walk out together, but i do worry about what people will think, he is not a pedigree cat (which i have only really heard of people using them for).

Who uses them for their cats? and how do you go about people giving you funny looks?

I might feel much more confident in letting him out through the day after seeing how he is outside (he is still to young to go out by himself yet, but when the time comes i mean)

x

Re: cat harness

Hi I have been walking Mozzy round the garden on a harness and she seems to really enjoy it! Once we have mastered it a bit better we shall probably go a bit further-who cares what other people think, its for the benefit of you and Jinxy not them!!!! The neighbours round here are right rubber-neckers you should have seen them, a whole gang of em when we had the fire brigade!!!! so I daresay there will be a few raised eyebrows
We went to Mac Donalds the other day (my OH couldnt wait til we got home to eat!) and a car pulled up next to us that had taken the cat along for the ride

Re: cat harness

I use one for Damien he's declawed so he can't be an outdoor cat. He comes on the walks with the dogs and loves it. You do get some strange looks but you ignore them. Its even better when you take them hiking people gave us the weirdest looks when we did it at the weekend.

Re: cat harness

I havent had much experience with them, but as an alternative could you cat-proof your garden?

I have not really looked into doing that, but we do not have the money to do anything like that at the moment. But it is something we would consider doing. Thanks for that.

Thanks everyone xx

Re: cat harness

I use one on Waffles (the moggy mog mog) and I have to say she has taken to it very well indeed she loves it and I am glad because I would never want to let her out on her own.

I only take her into the garden so I don't get the looks but don't worry about it - if people look at you funny then stuff them - if you are fine with it then why care what they think!!!

the moggy mog mog isn't the name of the lead but that would be cool... I was just saying that in reference to you saying that generally only people with peds take their cats out on harnesses I will do my best to confuse you

I got a harness from Pets at Home - don't get the kitten one because they are TINY and the adult ones can be adjusted. I also got a stretchy lead so that she can run around without me following her. I got the stretchy lead from pets at home but I got it from the dog setion because the cat ones were really expensive

Oops lol!! you saved me an embarrassment there, i could imagine me going up to one of the staff asking for a moggy mog mog pmsl!

Thanks for saying yours is not a pedigree, i never thought she was, but i am still kinda unsure of all the breeds yet, just know the pedigree's that really stand out.
I always have a wonder down the dog isle anyways, so i will have a nosy at the stretchy leads, thanks xx

Re: cat harness

Mai Tai goes out on her harness - we have an extending lead for her too - it's a pretty pink one . I don't worry about anyone thinks - she is safe that's all that matters
Good luck with Jinxy - it's best if you put the harness on him round the house for a bit first to get him used to it and when out walking you have to go where he wants - cats don't usually want to go walking like dogs
