collars

Hi, does anyone know where I can buy cheap and maybe in bulk cat collars? One of my little darlings has the habit of losing (on purpose or not I'm not sure) them and I am currently going though about 1 every few days!

He has been chipped. I only put the collar on so they wouldn't look like strays, but do you think it's ok for him to do without a collar? Advice please, they have been house cats up until recently and both me and them are new at this going outside malarky!

I have an indoor only cat but as far as the collar goes she hated it! She learned how to take the thing off and took it off everytime I put it on in the end. So, she goes without except for when she is outside on her harness. If it was me I would be tempted to use a collar for the same reason but if your kitties are losing them then surely they are getting on ok without them? Also, as long as your kitties know where to come home to then you should be ok

Re: collars

they don't go far, which I'm glad about and it's a fairly quiet area so I guess they are ok without them. I doubt he'll wander very far, he is the more cautious of the two.

I was hoping to find somewhere I can buy in bulk, maybe a 100 for a fiver or something lol

Re: collars

Yeah, Poundland seems a good bet – don’t think you’ll get a 100 though!

We got Tilly’s first one from Pets at Home it was £1.99 I think, we got it because it looked cute and was a good price but it frayed within a month or so and then snapped – and she’s mostly an indoor cat so I doubt it would have lasted 5 minutes with an outdoor kitty.

Anyway, now we have another P@H one that was around £4 but much better quality and 3 months on its still looking good as new and no escapes! Saying that though she’s very good and doesn’t seem to mind wearing it at all but trying to take it off or put a new one on is a nightmare!

Good luck with your collar quest anyway!

Re: collars

I would be cautious about buying cheap collars....as long as they have a safety feature for quick release then that's fine but please be careful as some collars can do severe damage if the cat gets it's leg caught in it and it doesn't release. Good luck.

Re: collars

The first collars I bought were very cool and cost £5.50 + postage. The second was a reduced to 79p from Pets at Home. Both lasted two days. I'm wondering if it takes him that long to work out how to get it off?!

I wouldn't buy one that wasn't safe for them, as in had a the snap off feature - don't worry!

Re: collars

I'm very impressed with the collar I got for Tigger last week. It's got a safety release fastening, little bell (which we took off) and best of all it's got a section with 'my home' written on it. The my home section has enough room for his name and our tel. no it and is held securely onto the actual shape of the collar by a strong popper.

Not sure why but I just don't like things dangling off a cat's collar such as ID barrels etc. Guess I'm paranoid they'll snag that on something rather than the actual collar. Plus it's expensive to keep replacing the barrels and discs when they lose the collar.

Got it for the same reason - don't want Tigger to look like a stray especially since he's new to the neighbourhood. So far it's doing well, it's a sturdy nylon collar and he's not lost it yet (fingers crossed)

I paid £2.50 for the collar and £1.70 in postage. The lady I got it from is not showing the collar in stock anymore but here is another e-bay link with piccy for info
