cat collars

we've had sheldon for 5 months now and in that 5 months he's had 3 different collars and none of them have lasted.
the 1st got stuck in his mouth when he was tryin to get it off and he nearly choked on it
the 2nd would never be kept on longer than half an our and he ended up eatin it to pieces tryin to get it off
and the 3rd we bought today so we can start and let him out on his own and he keeps managin to escape it.

so my question is how do yous all manage to keep collars on your cats?
i must say he is fine when he has his harness on and if it had safety release fasteners on i wud jst leave that on him

Re: cat collars

I'd just like to comment on collars as I watched Rspca rescue?? on telly the other day. They found a lovely sweet natured cat in a pub shed, he was wearing an elasticated collar which had gotten stuck over his leg because he'd tried to get it off. This caused quite severe skin damage all around his neck and leg due to the friction.

I can't be a hundred percent on exactly what collar but when we had a cat we put the buckle type on her plus micro chipping as extra security!

Re: cat collars

i thought of gettin him microchipped when he went for snip but wasnt plannin on lettin him out at that point but now i feel abit guilty keepin him in on nice days. i have a large communal garden and dnt think he wud stray out of that normally i go with him but sometimes im doin other things which means he cant go out either.
wud he have to be put to sleep to be microchipped?

thanx for replies
