Teacup cats?!

I'm looking for any information, good or bad on these tiny tiny cats.

I just purchased what was advertised to be a "teacup" Himalayan, and have gone through more problems than you could imagine. Link to his story is in my signature.

I'm looking for any and all information, as Sunday's are going to be the days that I raise awareness for this new fad.

Thank you so much.

Re: Teacup cats?!

There isn't a breed that is called a 'Teacup'. What you are actually buying is a cat that is smaller than the norm and is what is called the runt of the litter.

Now not so long ago (before the crazy fad of so-called designer cats and dogs) these runts were virtually given away when they appeared in a litter as being small and weak meant they had the potential for ongoing health problems. They certainly were never considered the best specimens for adding to a breeding programme by any reputable breeder.

Breeders that advertise these Teacups are anything but reputable as they are breeding for the high price these cats seem to fetch, not for their health.

I have to be honest! i was shocked to see the little cat. I really hope they stop this 'fad' soon, it can not be healthy!

He's not. I have to take him to the vet twice a month for monitoring and constant weight checks. We don't know for sure if he's completely healthy, yet, as he's too small to get any of the procedures done on him.

Sorry to hear you have problems with your cat..........I presume his breeder doesn't want to know either.

I havent read your story yet, how can I get the link please.

Mouchois

It's not complete, but that's the basic tale.

His breeder had no idea about what she was doing, as she's not a "formal" breeder.
Melvin was an "accident" from two of her pet Teacup cats. The lady was pretty much as blonde as they get.

Melvin would have died if I had not begged her to give him to me when she did.

I'm not blaming her, just her ignorance.

Re: Teacup cats?!

I feel that the real problems are the people online that are selling these little guys for well over $2000 a piece. And rather than including a health guarantee, they include a "size guarantee". It's terrible, because who knows what's really wrong with these kittens?

Re: Teacup cats?!

Oh my goodness he is tiny bless him............so cute with it though.

Have you managed to keep the runs under control, I presume that is why he was so dehydrated. You say you fed him canned pumpkin, that's normally given for constipation though or does he suffer from both?
