Question mirrors

Hiya

In our bedroom, we have full length wardrobe mirrors.
With the doors being mostly open through the day with tidying etc, Jinxy often goes to the mirror, and he loves them. He does the side jumpy thing, and licks the mirror to lol! and rubs his sides off of it.

What do you think a cat see's when they look in the mirror?, do you think they see themselves or another cat? We would love to get Jinxy a buddy at some point

Hope your all well, and enjoying this rather mixed weather lol

x

Re: mirrors

i think they see another cat.
we were decoratin out living room last week so the mirror was standing on the floor for about a week and sheldon was nearly killin himself jumpin on it. he would run from the passage do a 4 paw kick at it and then run away. wonderin why this cat wasnt comin after him he would come back and look around to see where it was

it was hilarious but quite sad as you could see him puzzlin over where the cat had gone when he looks around the back

Re: mirrors

Mmmhhh - that's a tricky one and a question I've often wondered about.

The two cats I have experience with just stare at mirrors for ages without blinking or reacting very much at all (I call it the 'I see dead people stare' lol)

Your Jinxy sounds like a right little bundle of entertainment!

Re: mirrors

Piglet doesn't bother about the mirrors...i have full length fitted mirrored wardrobes, and he doesn't bother looking at himself any more, but he does open them with his paw and have a sneaky kip inside!! xx

Re: mirrors

ooo I read about this and it was very interesting.

Apparently, cats are not 'self aware' so they will always think it is another cat. You can tell this if your kitty looks for the other cat behind the mirror. You can also test this further by putting something on your kitty (I used a sticker) and seeing if they notice the cat in the mirror also has a sticker on.

We lay the full length mirror on its side. Waffles runs up and down it doing wicked ninja jumps

Re: mirrors

So Piglet isn't bothered about the cat in the mirror?

He's too cool for school!!!

He does do the funny stiff legged jumpy thing at dusk time though...and puts all his fur on end and dives on the dog!!
