Phantom pregnancy... HELP

Hi all,
Dahlia got spayed at the begining of this month and seems to be producing milk, well her mammory glands are swollen... very similar to the way milk hardens when a queen stops feeding.
I called the vets and they mentioned it could be a phantom pregnancy and that they would get someone to call me back when they can....

is it serious?

dnt have any experience of this but im quite sure its not serious. humans can even get it.
your cats body just thinks its pregnant so is gettin ready to have babies. abit like when we take contraception we fool our body to think its pregnant.

feel free for someone to correct me if im wrong but this is wat i think

Re: Phantom pregnancy... HELP

According to Dan Rice, it is usually caused by artificial simulation (causing ovulation) & apparently nothing to be concerned about as it usually terminates in 9 weeks.

Re: Phantom pregnancy... HELP

thanks guys. the main prblem is the nurse didint seem to know why it was happening, when a cat gets spayed EVERYTHING is taken out so there shouldnt be any hormones to make this happen... thats why its a bit wierd

Re: Phantom pregnancy... HELP

Not unless it was simulated before it was removed & the hormone was already released?

Short of that, perhaps the vet didn't remove "everything"? It's been known to happen before.

Re: Phantom pregnancy... HELP

My cat was accidently left with one ovary in her, poor little sausage, she was going mad with frustration and fake seasons etc, before it was worked out to be that. Phew, she was fine after she had a second spay. Bless her, she is no longer with us, but not because of that.
