Cattery Questions

Hi Guys,

Need to put my two little 'uns in a cattery for a couple of days next weekend and going to check a few out in my local area, but want to make sure I ask all the right questions and don't miss any vital ones? Does anyone know if there is a list of recommended questions to ask or things to look out for when visiting? I am absolutely dreading it

Re: Cattery Questions

hi Gennie

i considered putting ours in a cattery but havent as they dont like being away from home without us - so we are trying to get someone to come in and feed ours a couple of times a day. have you also looked at that? not saying that catterys are bad at all - far from it, but ours are fussy kits

Re: Cattery Questions

Hi. I put my cat in a cattery whenever I go on holiday. Just make sure you take a good look around and make sure you are happy with the area. I don't know what month your going in but I make sure the cattery has an inside and outside area. Also some offer bigger spaces for two cats so they're not seperated, it will prob be easier for them if they stay together and just make sure they have rules about vaccinations etc so you know your cat won't catch anything. Oh and if your cats are fussy eaters make see whether they'll feed your food and not a food that might be included in the cost. Sorry I went on a bit... hope that helps

Re: Cattery Questions

If in winter check the sleeping area is heated or can be

Check they have a failsafe for cats who are quick escaping through doors.

Check if they are willing to 'play' with the cat or give cuddles or groom

Re: Cattery Questions

Hi - Just to add I'd have a look at the other pens and see if they are clean etc.

Also any cattery worth its salt will insist on seeing vaccination records for your kitty.

Re: Cattery Questions

Ask for references from satisfied clients (not that i did - i was sold when they stated that cuddles were included in the price!).

You could also do a google search about the cattery to find if there are negative comments.

Re: Cattery Questions

Thanks everyone for your advice. I am going to put them in for two nights and see how they are - if they seem OK, I will put them in when we go on holiday for a week and if they are distressed then I will look into getting a sitter/visitor. Fingers crossed they will be excited to be somewhere different for a change - they love visiting other people's houses!
