Does my cat love me?

Yesterday Katy became a 'killer cat' I had been sitting watching TV (as one does) Katy was in and out of the garden, through the living room window. I went into the kitchen to make a cup of tea aaaagh there was one very dead bird on the kitchen floor. Does this mean that Katy really loves me or is she just being 'unpleasant' ? I told her off and she just gave me that look that cats give as if to say 'what's the problem?'

Re: Does my cat love me?

I have read somewhere that cats give their owners dead animals as a sign of trust. It isn't necessarily a 'present' but more that they want you to look after it for them

It is in their nature to kill things.

Re: Does my cat love me?

I think the worst thing for me is last summer when both my cats kept bringing in birds ... alive but injured

Having birds flapping wildly around the living room leaves alot to be desired! lol

Yesterday one of the cats left a dead vole outside the back door .... luckily I always wear shoes in the garden

Re: Does my cat love me?

Right....so what do I have to do to make Katy 'not trust me quite so much' ? I think it will have to be a collar and bell job!! LOL
I know it is their natural instinct. Unfortunately I happen to be a bird lover. Last year I moved my breeding pair of canaries to what I thought would be a safer location for them in an outside brick shed. I got them a lovely big breeding cage..........then one morning I went in to feed them and a rat had got to them in the night, they were ripped to shreds. I gave up breeding them after that ( Incidentally this was before I got Katy. Bye the way....I got the rat too,my son put down a trap for it.

Re: Does my cat love me?

I don't think there is alot you can do to be honest, both of my kitties have collars with bells on but I think they have worked out how to silence them!

Maybe someone else has any ideas?

aaaw I am sorry what a terrible experience for you. I love birds too and encourage them into my garden - something very peaceful about watching birds

Re: Does my cat love me?

It is natural for them to bring "presents" back I have only had a couple of mice - no birds, most of the time my cat brings back twigs, sticks and bits of plastic I often find a pile on the mat outside the front door

Re: Does my cat love me?

Hey you should see what cats bring to my door!

I'll take some pictures for you

Anyway, it is just in their nature, but not very nice, there's certain times of day to keep them in,(DAWN AND DUSK) and make sure they are well fed, some people put bells on collars but I don't really like that. Can all help protect birds.

Frogs can be gross!
