Kitten not weaning at 10 weeks old

Can anyone please advise me? I have 5 kittens who are 10 weeks old and all are eating with the exception of one. He drinks evaporated milk, which I mix with water and is always playing, but his eyes have a slight red look around the outer lids and he just won't eat anything solid. Am I right to be worried and take him to the vet, or will he eat when he is ready. I had to get the mother spayed, as the local tom cats were not leaving her alone, so I think her milk has dried up too now. Any help would be most appreciated, as I am getting more and more worried. I have de-flead him and wormed him a week ago. Compared to all the other kittens, he is very light - worryingly. Thank you. Maria.

Re: Kitten not weaning at 10 weeks old

I would get him to the vet for a check, if he is obviously less developed in eating solids than his litter mates, he might be ill, especialy at 10 weeks.. I kno my cats were weaned fully at 6 weeks as the mother lost interest so they should all be able to eat solids

Re: Kitten not weaning at 10 weeks old

Dear all that has kindly replied to me, thank you so much. Today I was told to try some tinned tuna in brine, obviously I drained it off, but I have never seen him eat so quickly and I got some kitten milk, fortified with vitamins and he loved every bit! What a relief - I will feed little and often now and see how we go, because I have got some kitten wisker pouches now which are the fish ones, so hopefully he should be used to the texture and taste of fish now and will eat it. In answer to the person that asked what solids....I tried wiskers kitten meat selection pouches, felix, but he wouldn't touch it. Thanks again all for replying and so pleased I joined this site, it's been very helpful.
Kind regards, Maria.
