Unhappy HELP NEEDED- 15 week old kitten wont sleep !

Im in need of some help and advice, my kitten wont stop crying at night. i have tried eveythin from letting her sleep in my room to hot water bottle in her bed and cuddley toys. we've had her 5 weeks now and for the first 3 1/2 weeks she was fine, but the last week n a half ive had about 2 hours sleep a night and im at my witts end so any suggestions will be of great help. ive tried ignoring her but now my landlord has been in touch to say that she's had complaints about my kitten as she crys constantly.

shes got loads of toys but isnt interested in them at night. apart from the crying at night shes perfectly fine and healthy.. and doesnt cry at all in the day. but from the time i go to bed to the time i get up she crys. she has a warm bed.. blanket.... toys.... food.. water.. and clean litter tray. she gets played with before she goes to bed and seems to sleep for about an hour. then shes wide awake and crying

PLEASE HELP!!!

a very tired kitten owner x

Maybe try keeping her awake so she is more tired on a night. Give her lots of exercise before bedtime, maybe she will sleep through?

I have never had a kitten, mine were adults when we took them in, so I have no experience with little ones..

Re: HELP NEEDED- 15 week old kitten wont sleep !

It might be worth just taking her over the vets for a quick check up. Although its not uncommon for young kittens to cry when they first go to their forever home away from their mum and siblings, what is unusual is for the kitten to settle in for a few weeks and then start crying.

Are you sure the kitten is not hugry at night? Kittens eat alot, they need alot of energy to grow, at 15 weeks, I would be inclined to allow the kitten to eat as much as it likes, so make sure there is food available.
Also, if the kitten is eating dry food, it will need lots of water, make sure the kitten has acess to this too.

I would try not to make a habbit out of letting the kitten sleep in your bed unless you plan on letting it sleep in your bed forever. You know what they say, old habbits die hard.

Cats are generally most active during dawn and dust, as this is when they would be out catching prey, use this to your advantage, and 'play the kitten hard' during the evening to try and tire it out. But be aware, with the light mornings in the summer, the kitten is likely to become active fairly early in the morning too.

Try getting some toys that 'play back'. For example, in sainsburys they do toys on elastic that you can hook over a door handle, because its on elastic, everytime the kitten tugs it, the toy will tug back, this might keep the kitten enteraind without you haveing to drag toys around the room. There is also a mouse on a spring toy in wilkinsons, but that one squeeks, so not so good if you are trying to sleep.

I know you have tried the hot water bottle, but what about getting a radiator bed? The other thing is for some reason my cats all love to sleep on towles, if you have an old bath towle or something try using that in its bed, might find that more comfortable.

Does the kitten have any other unusual behavior?
It may be worth you contacting the breeder to find out if any of its litter mates are having problems.

Re: HELP NEEDED- 15 week old kitten wont sleep !

First of all thank you all for the advice... atm im desprate to try anythin..

My kitten has no other unusual behaviour.. i do try and tire her out and she seems to sleep for about an hour when i get into bed.... but after that she just crys.. i will try her with a bath towel tonight as i havent tried that yet... as for a radiator bed... in my apartment we have heaters not radiators so they dont fit on them.... she has LOADS of toys (shes very spoilt) so she cant possibly be bored..

i always feed her before i go to bed. so shes always got food throughout the night.. i have even got incontact with a vets and stated my problems and they suggested i get her spayed HOWEVER they wont spray her till shes 6 months... so onmly another 2 months of no sleep..... great!

I doubt that is the problem with her being so young, you are right to get her spayed of course but with some vets that is the answer for everything!

Are you at home with her all day? My boy used to howl the house down at night wanting to go out (he was a house cat then) and was neutered! Shes obviously in playmode as cats usually are at night .. I think if it was me I would invest in a little playmate for her!

Re: HELP NEEDED- 15 week old kitten wont sleep !

with the trouble ive had with her im not inclined to get another one lol.. She is left on her own for a few hours a day. and so far shes been no trouble in the day time (or so my landlord said when she called to say she'd recieved a complaint about Ella crying at night)... im seriously at my witts end.

Im very sleep deprived and so if i come across as if i dont love her, i do

Re: HELP NEEDED- 15 week old kitten wont sleep !

Oh dear i know it is awful... i went through the same thing... even cotacted Cats protections for rehoming... lol changed my mind though thankfully.

Cats are naturally nocturnal. Next time you have a day off keep the cat as livley as possibe with less naps ect, get a toy on the go!

Like i baby you should have a routine as well, I find my two calm down more at night if we turn the lights off and watch a film.
The onyl way i could stop my boy crying all nigth was to put the tv on really low all night.... wasnt great but it worked after a while

Re: HELP NEEDED- 15 week old kitten wont sleep !

ive tried leaving the tv on and also tried a radio (neither worked) ive always tried leaving lights on and also making it completley dark for her and again neither worked.. its very frustrating and tiresome to say the least especailly when i have to get up and work after having 2 hours broken sleep a night.
