Introducing house cats to house rabbits...

I have 2, 5 year old female indoor Burmese cats, both spayed. I am going traveling for a year and my friend has offered to foster them while I am away. She has 2 rabbits that occasionally roam the house. Will my cats be ok with them or will they see the rabbits as prey? We are going to introdue them gradually. Any ideas on how we can make them become friends?

Thanks x

I have a cat with 2 rabbits and i wouldnt trust her with them alone she knows it to...I would be very careful as if the cats hasent seen the rabbits before..
But some people on here have rabbits N cats and they get on well..

Yeah just introduce them slowly you never know it mybe the rabbits who think the cat is prey...

Are you going to take the rabbits over your freinds to introduce them?

No we're going to bring the rabbits to my house...the cats may accept them easier in my hosue...if I take them to their house I think the cats would hide therefore not a successful introduction x

i would do it the other way around. you want the cats to be wary of the rabbit and when the cats go in the buns territory they will be more confident of chacing the cats off.

ive got 2 cats and a house rabbit and they get on fine but i wouldnt let them be together without supervision for about 4 months. and now charley is bigger than the cats i leave them unsupervised

Hummm...my cats are quite timid...when we moved 3 years ago they hid for days. Plus it's an hours drive and they don't really like cars, the longest they've ever been in a car is 5 mins...up to the vet. And thats only once a year for their booster.

i would still say they need to be introduced in the buns territory. cos if you bring the bun to you then the buns will be scared and the cats more likely to go for them

Re: Introducing house cats to house rabbits...

Well I have introduced tinky to my 3 year old bun.

I put tink in her carrier and let the bun sniff round her then let bun out whilst tink was out in her sleepy modes so she was less attempted to chase.

Now bun and cat get on quite well I do not let the bun out whilst tinky is in play mode. Also I do not leave them unservised.

But tink is more scared of the rabbit lol.
