Question on neutering/spaying

Hi as most of you will know in 4 weeks ( yay ) I get my two kittens, now they are brother and sister so need to be very careful with them, how soon might she come into call and how soon can I get them done. Just worried if there is a time gap between old enough to be calling but too young to be done, if you know what I mean xx lisa xx

Re: Question on neutering/spaying

Hi Lisa, I think they can be spayed from about 6 months old...not sure how young they start calling, think my cat was about 9 months when she first started calling.

Re: Question on neutering/spaying

Some vets will neuter as young as 14 weeks - it will depend on size rather than age.

Re: Question on neutering/spaying

I had male and female kitties, brother and sister. I was told by the vet they would need neuturing earlier that most at around 3-4 months I thought that was quite early, but the male was trying to mount her at 3 1/2 months and she kept trilling on the windows sill but wasn't interested in her brother. We had her done first, and had to keep him away from her as he still tried to do it. Then we had him done as well.

Re: Question on neutering/spaying

Thanks for the info, wow that is young isn't it, right I think I need to call the vet and find out how soon she willl do them, oh and convince hubby thay she doesn't need to have a litter frst lol. He is from the old school, has had cats all through his childhood and so wants it to be the same, you have a cat it has kittens you give the kittens away... oh yeah sounds soooo simple diesn't it lol. I know I have my work cut out convincing him. Appart from anything else I can't be doing with trying to stop her getting out while she is in season till she is over a yr old. Tut men... xx lisa xx

Re: Question on neutering/spaying

what breed are your new kittens? some breeds don't suit neutering at 14 weeks in my humble experience...

I guess then be guided by your vet? My little sister's female moggie had to wait a little longer than normal as she is so tiny the vet wanted her a certain weight before they operated... but my female moggie (now passed on) was done early as she was a good size and started calling.
