Exactly - it's very easy to sensationalise something on an internet forum without knowing the full story.

What do I think about it? I entirely reserve my thoughts as I wouldn't presume to judge a situation on such little information.

I'm surprised you don't know all about it, I could send you the newspaper clipping if you are unaware of the details Sarah.

Re: What do you all think ?

These sex offenders get too easy a ride nowadays, it's time people stopped looking the other way.
Look at that pedophile ring, if more people were aware of these people, and didn't look the other way or reserve judgement, more children and young people could be protected.

Re: What do you all think ?

I don't see the point of putting people in prison to pay for a crime they have committed if when they come out having served that time, they are not able to carry on a proper life again. I would like to assume that he has been assessed and those that made the decision to release him considered him to no longer be any kind of threat. In which case why should anyone else judge him.

I also assume that if he has been voted onto a committee that those individuals who made that decision, knew enough about him and the situation to make an informed and considered decision, and to criticise their decision without the facts they may have been privvy to is completely unjust. It maybe hard nowadays to find people who to want to spend time on a cat club committee, but I can not see anyone unnecessarily jeopardising the viability of their club or the trust of their members, just to make up the numbers.

I also fail to see how this would reflect on the GCCF as a whole. I wonder how any club would feel if the GCCF started dictating who they could have on their committee and who they couldn't.

As with any club/organisation there are people from all walks of life from all sorts of backgrounds and all sorts of secrets. There are just as many of those in TICA as the GCCF as FIFE.

Re: What do you all think ?

I think being on the sex offenders list proves that they are still considered a threat.
And yes it does make one wonder about the people who voted him onto a committee.

I'm not sure why you are surprised Audrey. I am not a criminal solicitor nor am I barrister and I therefore do not know the details of every case which has been prosecuted.

Saikou thank you for that reasoned response to this thread.

Re: What do you all think ?

Do we all honestly believe that all those put in prison, serve their sentences and proclaimed capable of release, are reformed characters and will not recommit crimes?

I don't, many just become cleverer, and more devious and learn a huge amount in prison about how not to get caught so easily the next time, no matter what their original crime.
From what I read sex offenders are a notoriously difficult group to rehabilitate successfully.

I don't know the original crime, but sentenced to 4 years makes it fairly serious I would have thought; you can get 4 years for manslaughter.

Re: What do you all think ?

Thank you Lauren, I'll be honest, I was really shocked at people defending sex offenders, I really didn't expect anyone to, I was a foster carer and one of my charges had been sexually abused, so I feel very strongly about them.

Re: What do you all think ?

Extremely brilliant post Lauren! I agree sex offenders being the hardest to rehabilitate. Not a very good example but seen something similar on Jeremy Kyle!!

And yes they learn all the tricks of the trade from being inside & so yes I agree again that they become more devious & clever so as not to get caught so easily!

Is it called wake up & smell the coffee!?
