moving house

Firstly, hello everybody, i'm new to this!! I basically joined for some advice about my young cat,so here goes..

we've recently moved house from a second floor flat (where Pancakes (my cat) was an indoor cat) to a place with a garden where we eventually want to let him out. I've read a lot about how to go about this and something said to shoo any other cats out of the garden to help your cat gain his territory. however, there is a cat who is friendly with me when outside and will come up to me for fuss, and recently he's been coming to our patio doors in the morning and sitting opposite pancakes (who sits on the other side of the window) and just look at each other..sometimes putting their paws on the window..not in a threatening way, just gentle scratching.should i leave these cats to look at each other or should i shoo the other cat away?? I will be very greatful for any replies,
the new kid on the block =)

Re: moving house

Leave them to it (unless the other cat is an entire male). Chances are they will get on fine.

Re: moving house

I too would leave them too it for now,and as difficult as it is i wouldn't allow your cat contact with this other cat as you don't know this cats health status-he may seem fine but could give your cat something nasty-so be cautiously careful Lauzy-btw hello and welcome, nice to have you and Pancakes along

Re: moving house

Congrats on your move.
I'm a great advocate of keeping cats indoors, having experienced the pain of losing cats on the road, and the pleasures of having permanent indoor tearaways.

Has your cat ever been outdoors?

Re: moving house

whilst in the flat we lived in a not so nice area, and Panc got out the window and didn't return for 3 days (i was a nervous wreck =) ) ..he keeps letting me know he wants to go outside so i thought it was only fair to move so he could have his own garden. Although now I am very weary of this due to his little escape! i've had outdoor cats before who have lived to be 18; but Panc is the first cat i'm responsible for. I would really like for him to go outside.

Re: moving house

Is it possible for you to have an outside catrun-they're brill and if someone you trust could build you a weatherproof one,it can still be costly but cheap at half the price
