Is Sophie eating too much?

For those who don't know Sophie is a nursing mother of 5 kittens.

The kittens are now eating dry &canned food but still nurse off of Sophie.

I give Sophie 3/4 of a can once a day, and leave dry food out constantly.. Sophie doesn't hesitate to lick the babies food bowls dry after they finish.

She feels heavier each time I picked her up.. but I just weighed her and she's still at 8 pounds. Her tummy looks big too. Naturally she is a petite cat and is still under a year of age.. Am I spoiling her by letting her eat whenever she wants? I figure she'll stop eating when she's not hungry but she just keeps on going.

Last night she woke me up in the middle of the night when she jumped up on my bed frantic because she had a giant bag of food on her head.. She stuck her head in to get the food that was left at the bottom and took the bag with her when she was done!

I'm just concerned..

Re: Is Sophie eating too much?

She needs to eat as much as she wants while she's still nursing, if her bowl or plate is empty keep refilling it. 5 kittens are taking a lot out of her, she can't recover from making them and feeding them without plenty of good quality food. If you see her looking for more food, licking bowls, searching for it, she's hungry and that's normal.
