Change in Food

Hi everyone!

I have a question about my cat Timo. I have had him on whiskers/felix tinned food for a good while now, he's quite fussy and only likes it in gravy however now when i put down his food he just looks at it and then looks back at me and walks away. I think he's bored with the same old food? does anyone have any suggestions as to what else i could give him to add some variation to his diet? I do give him cat biscuits which he likes so i was thinking of trying him on Iams but wondered if just giving him dried food would also bore him after a while??

Any help much appriciated.

Re: Change in Food

Hi. It's quite common for them to do this. I get round it by constantly changing their food. Keep em guessing We only use the foil packs and ours have always liked the Felix As Good As It Looks varieties. But there is always dry food available throughout the day too.

Ian.

Re: Change in Food

Are you sure its boredom, and its not because he doesn't feel like eating because he is unwell ? I would take him to the vets for a quick check up first to rule out a health issue.

Diet wise, if it is boredom, and they are like kids, LOVE something one minute and HATE it the next. I would try other varieties of good quality wet food (min 50% meat) and fresh food if he will eat it - cooked or preferably raw. I would definitely not start to introduce dry biscuits if he is not already on them as they are not good for cats - too high in carbs and leave the cat in a permanent state of mild dehydration. Too high carbs can add to obesity and heart disease, diabetes, dehydration affects kidney and urinary function making them more disposed to CRF, urinary infection and blockages.

Whiskas/felix isnt a very good food anyway......maybe he's starting to realise that? lol!

Try a better food such as applaws, Hi-Life or the different range on Zooplus. Also alot of cats prefer raw meats such as chicken & mince.

I understood that Iams was a cr*p biscuit as well - full of rubbish and can make them hungrier? Burns, orijen, organipets & James Wellbeloved are a better meat content of biscuit and dont contain the fillers that commercial dry food contain.

Re: Change in Food

Raw food as in human food. They love mincemeat and chicken, Although I prefer to give them chicken grilled.
