Re: Re-homing???
I know that not all cats are going to get on but it is definately worth persevering....I know of one breeder who got rid of about 5 cats in the space of a couple of weeks, just because she decided she didn't want to breed that particular breed any more. No attempt at integrating them into the home whatsoever.

Re: Re-homing???
Some people are too quick to rehome for a myriad of different reasons. I have never got my head around it. Its the hypocrisy of it all being done for the benefit of that cat in question I dislike. Nine times out of ten its being done for the benefit of the owner.
One person I know of bought seven or eight pedigree cats for showing/breeding and then one by one for this reason or that, in a space of six seven months, rehomed the lot for this reason and that, then bought a couple more, did the same thing, then bought more. Its like shopping at M&S, don't like him or her, or he/ she doesn't live up to your expectations get rid of them and bring in a new one.

Re: Re-homing???
I have been breeding for 12 years and to think of re-homing one of my girls is a deffinite no no.
I have 5 neutered cats and 3 queens and have no problems with bullying at all. Perhaps I am just lucky but to me they are pets first and foremost. I would rather give up breeding than re home one of mine |

Re: Re-homing???
If it's not for the right reasons i do agree but when needed i will rehome x
for example the last girl i rehomed - could not breed from her, had her neutered and she became very peed off with my 2 boy neuters - now if i had not of rehomed her my only options would have been to keep her penned or away from them, i would have not had the time to spend with her to keep her happy and could not have trusted her around the boys - i loved her very much and it broke my heart but she is now homed with a fantastic lady who dotes on her like she is a princess - to me that's a better life for her x some people don't have problems and are willing to keep all their retired queens, but not many MC breeders i know do it and i won't keep a cat if it's he or she is unhappy when there could be a much better place for them where theyre happier x there are alot of people out there who actually sit on a waiting list for retired queens and studs to give them a home away from a breeding environment - it's not as if there's no interest in them x |

Re: Re-homing???
I agree - I want to move forward and make progress with my breeding, and in order to do so I have to rehome certain ex-breeding cats periodically. It would be madness - and very irresponsible - to keep them all and let the numbers increase year by year. I already have 16 cats and I really never want to have more than 20 (have never yet had that many, it's always been my upper limit). I do not want any of mine, apart from studs, living permanently in outdoor accommodation. Strangely enough my cats ARE my pets and are definitely treated as such - most nights I have about 6 sleeping on or in my bed
![]() I have 5 neuters at present, 1 boy and 4 girls - and soon will have another neuter girl as my LaPerm is going to be spayed (she has never got pregnant and in any case I doubt I'd be able to sell her kittens) I don't have more than 4 litters per year and so far have managed to sell kittens even though it sometimes takes a little longer than I'd ideally like ![]() Quote:

back to the topic though.. i only plan to have 8-9 girls and 2 boys for breeding but i already have 4 neuters (who are now separate from the breeding girls as it's less stress on my boys) i do not want to have to keep any girls in pens, although sometimes it is necessary to do so i am sure - also in summer they go out in the runs so they can lie in the sun etc though xxit's bad enough my boys are in stud accomodation so when we move i plan to try and find a place with a separate annex to which i shall make a large run off of there and they can have a little house instead x that is how much i pamper my cats lol xx their happiness always comes first and if i know they are not happy here then i will not subject them to being here just because i feel guilty x it works both ways, it doesn't necessarily have to be for breeders benefit xx |

Re: Re-homing???

Re: Re-homing???
I do have 3 stud boys too, plus one who might be a stud if he ever gets his act together (he still lives indoors) Mind you 2 of them are due for neutering next year. (although they will be replaced!)
My girls don't always have a litter every year, sometimes they go longer between litters. 4 or 5 litters is OK for me, I don't want more than that. |
