Exclamation cat with a cut tounge

I'm a bad Mummy!! I was cutting up chicken on the kitchen floor for my two adorable kittens and Lynx got his greedy head right up close to thechicken, and I've accidently cut his tiny little tounge!! It happened about 10 mins ago its about about 3mm into the side of his tounge, poor thing!! He's currently cleaning himself and is getting himself covered in blood poor thing!! Will it heal?? Should I take him to a vet?? I feel awful!!

Re: cat with a cut tounge

I have a feeling cut tongues will be difficult to heal and could get infected, but on the other hand saliva is a natural inhibitor for bacteria.

At the very least ring up a vet and ask advice - especially if bleeding freely.

Bless him. Yes, I would ring the vet for some advice at least.

Re: cat with a cut tounge

Def ring vet for reassurence as phoning is free
Toungue injuries tend not to req treatment as dif to suture, but being a kitten should heel fast and as he's washing himself its obviously not too sore
Prev post very correct saliva does help keep the wound clean and it may heel without knitting together so pos permanent split but hey ho he can brag about it to his fellow toms....how he nearly got knifed by a mad woman with chicken!

Re: cat with a cut tounge

My cat cut her tongue on a tin can (he was inside the bin my son left open) the cut was along the top of his tongue. I took him to the vet and he said it would just heal itself.
I duno if he has a scar i can't get close enough becaus he thinks I have more worming tablets. Lol! (I do, theres one more to get)
