Anyone had a cat that has seizures?

Firstly i will go into a bit of the back ground my cat has been missing for 17 days and she came back home two days ago. Last night i had the fright of my life my beautiful Tabthia had a seizure. Which i have to say shaken me up a bit. I took her to the emergency vets and at the moment have her still in there she has had no more seizures. Although i am now very worried about my cat because this has never happened before.

Yesterday morning i took her to the vets and they gave her a injection which we are still waiting to find out what it was because my normal vets is closed over the bank holiday. They also gave me some antibiotics for her to take but she never had one because they told me to start her on them today. They gave her the all clear apart from her guts were a little churned.

I have been looking at the internet just to find a little more about seizures.

I am now wondering if she has this she does have some of the symptoms. Was wondering her being out in the wild for 17 days could of brought this on. It's called Feline Hyperesthesia

Quote:
Dilated pupils
Twitching of the tail
Appearing to be annoyed with the tail
Biting at the tip of the tail, sometimes to the point of mutilation
Behavior may change from loving, to scared and depressed
Sensitive to touch around the tail
Staring into space
Persistent, loud meowing
Dashing off madly and aimlessly around the house or yard
Rippling skin on the back just above the tail
Quote:

Symptoms of a hypoglycemic attack are:

Staggering, collapse or dashing around
Weakness
Aggression
Moodiness
Glassy eyes, dilated pupils
Seizure
Just wondering if anyone can help me do you think i should get the vets to test for this?

I am so worried about her i just want her to be ok it's seems to be one thing after another she has been fine up to her going missing.

Re: Anyone had a cat that has seizures?

Just thought i would add this

Quote:
Supplement Recommendations
If your pet is on medication to control FHS, Purely Pets does not recommend discontinuing traditional medications cold turkey or discontinuing them at all. This is your decision based on how the following program works. We highly recommend you work closely with your veterinarian.

Azmira detoxifier
Information has been hinting that FHS may be due to over-vaccinating or excessive use of chemicals used to control fleas and ticks. Because cats are much more sensitive to vaccines and chemicals than dogs are, they can suffer more serious side effects. Azmira detoxifier is a homeopathic remedy highly recommended for detoxification.

Nupro
Nupro is an all-natural pet supplement. It is a balanced formula that is high in protein, vitamins, minerals and digestive enzymes. It is helpful in promoting hair growth; controlling itchy, dry, flaky skin; repelling fleas and ticks; building energy and blood; stabilizing nerves for better disposition and alertness; arthritic conditions; allergies; improving appetite; burning fat; digestion and relieving gas.

Calm & Relax
Calm & Relax is excellent in restoring proper nervous system balance. Works as a daily tonic for highly stressed pets.

Re: Anyone had a cat that has seizures?

I had a cat that had fits in her old age. It was due to an illness she had developed in her kidneys I believe. She would not drink enough water, and then her urine would sting so she'd hold it in and poison herself into a fit. This was 20 yrs ago now and it may be diagnosed differently these days.

Anyway, basically DO NOT touch a cat during a fit, IT WILL BITE YOU HARD and possibly wont let go. As my Father found at the time, but the thing to do was to talk her out of the fit calmly and using her name (because obviously she couldn't recognise other words) She had a few fits in her time, and we came to recognise when one was likely to occur.

Maybe she had a fit already and that is how she got a bit lost or missing. Or maybe she has been locked in a shed and drank something she shouldn't have. I know we had a cat locked in our shed once and it was very ill when we got it out, it had no owner to run off and find so we took him to the vets and he had drank some water that had paintbrushes in to wash.

I'm sure your cat will be fine now you have it back, just as soon as your proper vet can talk to you about it!

Re: Anyone had a cat that has seizures?

Sometimes the information found on the net can freak you out!
The hypoglycemia is easy enough to cure-food. But the first one you mentioned...did it say just the trauma of being lost triggers hyperesthesia?
Maybe like a post traumatic stress type thing?

I hope you cat will be alright. I had a dog who took seizures and it's frightening to watch.

In the past I had 2 cats who seizured from flea spray. Didn't happen when I used powder. That was back before Advantage.

It's a good sign she hasn't seized so far. Cat's are so sensitive to so many things maybe she just had contact with a chemical.

For the record, it's things like this that make me keep my cats indoors. You just never know what's out there.
All my best to your baby.

Re: Anyone had a cat that has seizures?

Thank you to everyone who has answered

It's just really sacred me and just what to find the root of the problem.

I forgot to say also when she was at the vets she did have front line flee on the back of the neck do you think that may of caused it? I have always used the Dr martin flee treatment before this.

Now the vets seem to think she has drank something while she was missing and that's what caused the fit but there not sure.

You saying this also when i was in the car as i was holding her she did urine on me and it did sting me don't know if that is normal? The fit was over by this time but she was still in shock. Hopefully she will be ok now because they have been putting fluid into her for the last two days so this may of caused it.

I think once i get her to her normal vets they can do more tests she's still at the emergency one at the moment.
