Cat Food for 8 month old cats

OK, our cats have gone onto tinned food, but I was just wondering how much we should give them.

They are being feed twice a day and we have given them half a 400g tin each session. But we think this might be too much - What would you recommend?

Cheers

Nick

Re: Cat Food for 8 month old cats

I give my boys 1/4 a tin each meal on basis tin = 400g, they get 1 x 100g pouch at each meal (I feed 3 times a day)

dunno if that helps? they only very rarely have tinned though as they don't like it

Re: Cat Food for 8 month old cats

you cud check with the manufacturer as when i 1st got my kitten he was eating whiskers which stated 2 pouches plus so much dry but now hes on felix which has diff guidelines. so i jst feed him as before hes 9 months and can tell me if hes hungry. if you feed them dry food aswell then if they ever get peckish through the day then its there for them. and it adds texture to their diet

Re: Cat Food for 8 month old cats

It sort of depends on what food you are feeding them. If it is a good quality 60%+ meat food then you probably won't need to feed quite so much but if it is your basic 4%meat and lots of rubbish fillers then for good health and grwoth you may need to feed more.

Personally (and this is my opinion only) I would never go back to feeding the rubbish stuff (4% - i.e whiskas, felix, even sheba is only 8%) and I think mine now eat lots less - one is on raw (100g a day - costs about 25p-50p a day to feed him) and the other is on hi-life and natures menu (3 pouches a day - costs about 90p a day) So the pouches are a little more expensive but so worth it for the quality of the food and I feel that I am not building up problems for the future.

Re: Cat Food for 8 month old cats

Hmmm my cats have all different amounts :S

Batman is very active and outdoor and fairly big too, he can easily pack away a whole tin a day.
I get through loads of cat food though, my 2 girls probably have half to 3 quarters a day but they are 6 and don't do much all day, and growing boy has 4 pouches and they all munch a touch of dried food throughout the day as a snack!

I agree with the above amounts though as Batman eats cheaper food, and growing boy is on Hi-life. Otherwise he smells so bad you cannot be in the same room as him, and Batman was stray so he eats anything!

Re: Cat Food for 8 month old cats

Nick, I hope that you don't mind my slightly hijacking your thread, but this was a question that I was going to pose.

Harry will be 8 weeks old when we collect him on Friday morning. I know that he is currently eating wet food 4 times a day, which I plan to continue, but I also wanted to introduce some dry food into his diet. Ignoring Iams (for cruelty reasons), can anyone suggest a dry kitten food. Also, should I moisten it before feeding him?

hey Nina... not stalking you, honest... I found Royal Canin kitten is pretty good as dry food goes... both mine adored it and is tiny so good for tiny mouths... and a bag goes an awfully long way when fed alongside wet, I mixed it into the wet at first but switched to separate after about a week.
