Re: Sad news

You are making the right decision - let him enjoy his remaining few weeks with dignity. He is a beautiful cat. Will be thinking of you over the next few weeks.

Re: Sad news

Gosh I am crying now I've read this. It is such a hard thing to do isn't it. I have had to do it and even though I knew it was right it's still so painful. But it IS part of the responsibilty of being a pet owner, you wouldn't want them to suffer unnecessarily, so I think you are doing exactly the right thing here and letting him have a much more enjoyable time albeit shorter than the one filled with medication and vet stress, and that's only if he survived the trauma of the op anyway.

He looks absolutely gorgeous, have a big snuggle with him from me! X

Re: Sad news

ohno I am so sad to hear this news. I have a real soft spot for your gorgeous little cat. I too like the idea of him sleeping by his favourite tree and like you said he has had a long and happy life. He looks well looked after in that photo and very relaxed
Sometimes it is tempting to keep pets going because of 'what ifs' but sometimes it is better to let them go in peace.

Re: Sad news

Thanks for the kind words guys. The vet gave him steroid and long acting pain killer injections and he's really perked up over the weekend. He's still painfully thin, but has been playing with Dexter a little and having lots of snuggles with us. Have to take him back in 3 weeks for an assesment.

Money would be no object for our Sam as he's insured. But i've decided I'm not going to put him through the op. He wouldn't understand, and it's dangerous for old cats to be under Anaesthetic for so long. The vet said it's 50/50 wether he'd come out the other side. I'm going to let Sam make the decision I think. We'll all know when the time comes. He's a clever old cat who was the undisputed boss of the street for most of his life. Punching well above his weight with the competition. Always made us smile to see the other cats scatter when sam went on patrol

I'll keep you all informed

Ian F.

Re: Sad news

thanks for the update

I don't need to say it - I know you will keep him comfy and cuddled up in the coming days/weeks. Good that he perked up over the weekend though poor old boy. Sounds like he has enjoyed a great life though.
