Cat groomers

Does anyone have any experience of them?

Audrey has a few matts that I can't get out and she is booked into the vets tomorrow to be sedated and clipped as she is absolutely terrified of the clippers, but my husband has just mentioned a cat groomer quite near to us and wondered if they would be able to help instead?

Re: Cat groomers

I have the same problem, Timmy tears you to pieces if you try and groom, but my vets won't do it unless its severe, which basically means waiting til his completely matted and his skin is red raw!! I'd rather him go for me than to leave him like that so have booked him into a groomers on Saturday (she said she might be able to brush them out but I don't think he's going to let her, I'm not sure how he'll go with clippers though as the slightest thing freaks him out I think your best bet will probably be just to call them and explain the situation, that's all I did and I told her about him going for you if you try to groom him and other stuff, she was very nice and put me at ease, so I have my fingers crossed but am not getting my hopes up just yet. To be honest my worry is not her, but how he's going to react.

Make sure too that she won't come into contact with other animals. Where Timmy is going, although owners may say they're okay with other dogs and cats, she won't let them interact just in case. This was a big thing for me as Timmy has serious dog issues, luckily she managed to fit me in this Saturday (had to book 3 weeks in advance though - which I suppose is a good thing if she's busy, as people must be happy with her services) when she only has two other cats to do, so no doggies around, am hoping this will make things a bit less worrying for him.

I would say I'd let you know how things go, but you live no where near me! I do think the best thing though is to just ring them, I know its not always best to go on first impressions but when I explained Timmy's situation (he hates being touched on his back end and belly after having a leg removed last year - which is why he now has mats as he won't let me near them) and what happened to him (his leg was 90% ripped off by a dog, the vet removed the rest) and how nervous he now is and she was very understanding. I do think if you can chat with them or even visit them it will put your mind at rest

Re: Cat groomers

I googled "cat groomers in Kent" and found my one (as luck would have it they're a 10 min drive from my house and only 2 mins from mum and dad's so very local, she does collections and deliveries for a small fee, but prefer to take him there myself so I can check it out too

Re: Cat groomers

Thanks Vic - I think I will call them but I dont think they will be able to get the matts out without using clippers.....they may be able to ease them though.

Re: Cat groomers

I think Timmy may have to have his clipped out too, she said as long as she could get a come behind them she may be able to tease them out, but I can't see him letting her even if she can do it, he got through gardening gloves last time I tried Will be an interesting morning on Saturday lol
