Exclamation bracken seriously spooked

i dont force bracken to go outside, i let him have the option, i dont think i could force a cat to do anything anyway but

for the past week hes been in two minds about going outside, often either sticking his head through the cat flap or sitting half in half out before deciding on staying inside

but the past two days hes been going out in the morning and about twenty minutes later darting back inside again and running to hide behind the television which he hasnt done for months !

then literally hiding under the fleece on the sofa while definately looking out for something that he thinks will follow him inside

yesterday i went straight out to see what was outside that might have frightened him so much, checked front and back and saw and heard nothing

ive tried reassuring him but right now hes cowering behind the tv and checking to see what might have followed him inside or be behind me, theres nothing there, nobody can get in unless theyre small enough to climb through the catflap, i would have heard them outside anyway

he was fine later on in the day, the sun was shining and he was outside trying to catch insects etc, in and out as usual all day, plus we were hanging the washing out, but its just in the mornings i think

whats going on ?

Re: bracken seriously spooked

Maybe theres a "bully" cat that comes round early in the morning and darts off before you can see it. Certainly sounds like something is scaring poor Bracken. He probably felt more confident later on with you around.
