Unhappy My cat eats plastic bags

I have the problem with my cat eating plastic
He eats plastic bags, any packaging made of plastic and im scared that he will end up sick. I have to check the full house for items made of plastic left lying about, because he searches and steals any plastic items. The vet said its normal for puppies to do that but she never heard of a cat doing it. Does anyone of you have or had the same problem? He also keeps drinking out of the toilet even if he has plenty fresh water standing in the kitchen. I think this cat is crazy lol but sometimes it can really get dangerous.

Re: My cat eats plastic bags

Hi, I've never heard of cats eating plastic bags before, cats often have a certain thing that they like the feel of, and him eating it may be a wild instinct? one of my cats will only play with crisp packets folded into a triangle, and my other cat loves stealing sponges, I often find them on the floor. You may just have to make sure you don't leave anything lying about and try and keep him occupied with other toys that he likes. To stop him drinking from the toilet just keep the lid down, maybe let him drink from the tap? my cat loves drinking running water from the tap and from a catit water fountain.

Hope this helps.

Re: My cat eats plastic bags

Some of mine have a fetish with licking plastic, just check they may not be eating it just licking. Think they like the texture, must get a thrill out of it They lick the toilet roll bag that they come in and I have also had them pee on the odd carrier bag that has been dragged onto the floor. So its nothing odd, rest assured they all have that fetish, pmsl

Re: My cat eats plastic bags

My Ragdoll Mojo loves chewing plastic bags, crisp packets etc. He has done it from being a little kitten and still does it (he's over a year now). He also likes to chew my next directorys for some reason!!

Re: My cat eats plastic bags

Our Bengals will pee on plastic carrier bags - or bin bags.
I haven't seen them licking them though. They like to lick cardboard boxes instead!

Re: My cat eats plastic bags

One of my cats sleeps in a plastic bag, he was a rescue cat and I'm thinking it was probably something to do with that. The other cats love to kill plastic bags - so you can imagine what can happen sometimes when they don't realise Sqiggles is in in the bag. (Squiggles as he had a broken pelvis that wasn't reset and so his back legs aren't aligned so he's a little squiggly when you look at him). My old cat will chew bottle tops if they're still on the bottle, I haven't figured out why yet. My female cat will chew a nail file if she can get hold of one, she'll spend a good hour trying to pick it up with her claws and pop it into her mouth with her paws (should try to get it on camera), she also shreds my bin liners, the part that goes over the edge of the bin, but only when it's a new packet of liners, once they've lost the smell of new liners she doesn't bother. Rolled up tin foil balls, and crisp packets are good fun to chase and kill too.
