The dried cat food, I think its an American word that I've picked up on! Oops! How about fish then? I've got some fresh filleted whole mackeral and something else that I've forgotten the name of!

Re: Natural Raw Food Diet

The bones splinter if you cook them, not when fed raw. If you are not sure I would read a few books on the subject first before going for it. I did a huge amount of research first and that is why I am confident that a raw diet is safe and healthy for my cats and dogs. They have a much quicker working digestive system than us and so the same bugs that bother us do not bother cats or dogs so much. They would not cook food out in the wild after all.

Bengal cats are known for upset stomachs but all mine have been fine on raw food with no problems what so ever. They are in fantastic condition. I do not think a raw diet is something you should do without reading up on it though and making sure that you are giving a balanced diet and feeding all the elements needed to keep the animal healthy. There are websites and books out there with excellent advice on raw feeding and it is worth doing a bit of research first.

Re: Natural Raw Food Diet

I've read books and spent hours on end researching a raw diet for my dog so I'm more than confident I'm doing right by him. I don't seem to be able to find such indepth information about cats though.

Re: Natural Raw Food Diet

I found a book called "Raising cats naturally, how to care for your cat the way nature intended" by Michelle T Bernard to be very useful. I had to do a search for it because at the time I could not get it on Amazon .

I have found more information out there for my dogs though I agree. The change in my dogs convinced me to feed my cats raw when I got them.

Re: Natural Raw Food Diet

Yeah we've only had Milo on it a week and his smelly breath has gone, his number 2's dont smell and he's stopped farting!

The cats love raw meat but were still giving them dry cat food until we are sure we are giving them everything they need on the raw!

Thanks for your advise, I will try and get that book!

That is what we noticed as well and it is so much nicer cleaning up small hard dog crap, than soft smelly runny stuff . The cats litter tray smells a lot better now as well

Hi, you're doing the right thing reading up on it, theres some really good websites on the subject, although they all seem to have their own take on how it should be done. At the end of the day they're your pets and you need to decide what is most suitable for them.

Puppys can be fed anything you would feed to a fully grown dog including bones as soon as they are weaned.

In my opinion meat and bones should be fed everyday, organ meat 3-4 times a week and vegetables 2-3 times a week, I don't feel theres any need to supplement the diet as it already contains far more nutrients than any dried foods. But like I said you need to come to your own conclusions and fed as you feel appropriate.

Chicken bones are only a problem when cooked, it is perfectly safe to feed them raw. As with any food theres a risk of choking but no more so with chicken bones than with dried food. Milo has had wings, breasts, and drumsticks and been fine with them all.

If you would like any more advice just let me know and I'll help you the best I can.
