Re: Getting another kitten.

Hi there,
Its pefectly normal when you introduce a new baby in the household, they should settle down in a couple of weeks.
I got a new baby last week and they are still going hammer and tonges.
Good luck

Re: Getting another kitten.

When I introduced my BSH to my tortie (who is known to dislike other cats) there was alot of spitting, growling and aggression but within a few weeks they have settled down and my tortie just ignores his attempts to play and if he gets to close she just growls and runs away.

It is perfectly normal unless one of them is getting seriously hurt but that doesnt sound like its happening.

Good Luck!

Re: Getting another kitten.

When new kitten/cat arrives to a new home, where thers is another 1-2 cats already live - I would've advise "slow introduction routine". Resident cats are normally more or less territoril; New cat has a strange smells and strange look; I've hear that cats have no size perception - so it doesnot matter weather it is a young kitten or adult arrives in a new home - it coud be threatening for exosting cats. New kitten should be places in a separate quiet room (with litter tray, food and water) to adapt new noises and smells. Sometimes its takes up to a few days for them to get Introduced. Than they all will smell each other under the door, may be one could exchange blankets for them to sniff each other. In a couple of days lock/hide older cats for a while and let new kitten to explore the house. When they will start to play "footsy" under the door - its a sign that they are getting much friendlier to each other.

Re: Getting another kitten.

Thank you so much for the the advice! Knowing it can take a couple of weeks put my mind at rest a bit.
But Icky, keeps running round and chirruping. And he stills tries to hit her really hard with claws. Also he tried to bite her again, I'm a bit worried hes going to hurt her, but I do seperate them the minute he gets rough.
Thing is she won't stick up for herself, she'll growl and spit (shes fierce lol), but 'cause shes a Raggie she won't take a swipe back.
I was hoping getting a more laidback cat meant that there woudn't be issues over dominance, and that does seem to be the case.Icky does seem to be dominate.
Also, Icky is getting more violent with us (the humans), he bites us a -lot- now, and scratches. I'm wandering round looking like a self-harmer lol.

Yeah my room is huge, plus they have the run of the house during the day. I've got fairly good insurance with Sainsburys at the minute, so for two cats it'll cost me about £13 a month, and it's £50 excess. Which isn't too bad? I've found a couple of breeders that have seal colourpoint raggy girls, so fingers crossed in a few weeks I'll have two crazy balls of fluff!
Are both your kittens Ragdolls?

Re: Getting another kitten.

No, my original is a moggy. They spent a lot of today asleep on the bed next to each other. But Icky has random moments of attack. I do not leave them alone together, and I stop him and try to distract him with toys. Yeah I contacted the breeder and she said it will just take time and not to leave them alone together.

Re: Getting another kitten.

BREAK THROUGH!
Icky is now licking Freija!
He still chaes her and play far too rough, but he stops it now too.
This is really amazing!
I was terrified I would have to think about taking her back, because I couldn't stand to have her being hurt.
But it seems to have turned around a bit.
Lmao.
Ok, I started tpying and by the time I was finished they were fighting again. My point still stands however, some affection is better than none.

Re: Getting another kitten.

Aww I'm so glad they are getting along better now. When I first introduced kittens to my already grown cats at home I must admit I was a nervous wreck! I was constantly worried about my cats not liking the kittens and the kittens being scared of the cats ..... !

In the end I gave the kittens to a friend of mine as the stress was too much! However since then I have introduced another 2 and I have been much more relaxed about it now and it hasnt caused any major problems.

I think we all tend to panic a bit when we see the cats standing their ground and as humans we worry too much about it whereas cats have their own way of dealing with newcomers and even though they may not be the best of friends they learn to get along.

I wonder if dogs are the same? I know they are pack animals to maybe they welcome new additions?? Just a thought, maybe I'm rambling now ......
