Tips on Persian girl

Hi all. Getting my persian girl next week and just wanted any tips on grooming etc. I have bought a Mikki brush which I heard are good and Lily likes to be groomed. My sister-in-law mentioned something about cleaning her eyes daily. Is this right and if so is it just with cotton wool and water? Have got some baby wipes in case I need to wipe her fur after toilet!! Do I have to bath her etc. Thanks

Re: Tips on Persian girl

Hi Hunni,

I have just got 3 Persians myself 2 weeks ago on saturday.
1 Exotic short haired and 2 long haired.
I have to clean the long hairedones eyes every day and the short haired one less often.
You can use just warm water and cotton wool. Ive heard a Slicker brush is good i'm looking for one.
A mild baby shampoo/conditioner is good to use and they need grooming daily to prevent knots.

This is some of the advise i was given i hope it helps.
I set up a Persian group on here, feel free to join.
Can't wait to see piccies of your new furbaby.

Hi,

I have 2 longhair & 2 shorthair! I clean the longhairs eyes everyday with cooled boiled water and cotton wool pads.

I also brush them both twice a day but a slicker brush isnt any good for the longhair, you will have to get a sturdy comb which will get to the undercoat as well. Don't forget to brush the longhairs tummy as well as this can get very matted!

I have had to trim the fur around Alfie & Audrey's bum as poo kept getting stuck but they are fine now. I have never had to bath them, and really dont think they need it as long as they are groomed every day.

Hi. Thanks for that. Will get a comb. The brush I got is a Mikki ball pin slicker for sensitive skin for moulting and Undercoat. I am getting her from my friend who rehomes rescue cats. Lily likes to be groomed but she has been a bit negelcted. she was at vets on Tuesday to be spayed and de-matted as she had a big knot on her chest and her ears were a bit dirty. She is back at my friends now all ok. My moggy, Millie was spayed and microchipped Monday and all ok, she has stitches out next Thursday so think I am getting Lily next Friday/Saturday.

Re: Tips on Persian girl

The best grooming tool for a Persian is a metal comb with both wide and narrow teeth which will get down to the skin thoroughly and prevent knots and tangles from forming, places to watch out for are behind the ears, under the armpits, tummy and back end. A slicker brush can be used inbetween combing to fluff the coat up and catch any little knots but should be used sparingly as they tend to pull the undercoat out if used too much.

A greasy coat is what causes knots to develop, if bathing is out of the question, a light sprinkling of baby talc now and again will keep the coat silky and grease free.

For the eyes, cooled down boiled water with a pinch of salt and wipe daily. A face flannel cut up into squares is better for removing the crusty gunk that can form and is better than cotton wool which might get into the eyes and irritate further. Finally use a tissue to dab dry, keeping the eye area dry as much as possible will help to stop bacteria from forming and causing infections. A little cornflour using a Q-tip to pack the corner of the eye will soak up any remaining moisture and prevent tears from forming.

This is great advise for me too with my 3 new babies.
