siamese / oriental cats

I have just been chatting to a friend who is getting into breeding, I feel they have been a bit 'done over' by a 'breeder' (well you cant call her that, but thats another thread!) who hasnt got a clue what they are doing........so I have been trying to help them anyway I can!

RIGHT! The question is....... do Oriental cats come in 'blue pointed' & would they be called 'orientals'?

I know the answer but I want to make sure that I have it right as I dont want to give her the wrong advice!

Re: siamese / oriental cats

Siamese have colour restricted to their points, orientals don't, they have full expression of colour/pattern over their entire body.

Siamese with white are referred to as pointed orientals.

I believe the CA refers to siamese with orientals in their pedigree as oriental shorthairs.

Re: siamese / oriental cats

oo thats interesting!

well first this lady said that the cat she sold was accidental mated by her siamese, then she said that it is a blue pointed oriental?

so white with blue points....... so wouldnt that just be a siamese?

that lady wants to breed siamese & has never breed before, she bought a bengal (no paperwork) and sold the bengal to my friend, who now cant reg her due to no paperwork so not even sure if its a 100% bengal thats who got mated by the siamese.

Now she wants a girl kitten back cos they miss the bengal so much.....with a un-neutered siamese male in the house, I dont see good things happening there!

Re: siamese / oriental cats

siamese with white, refers to white patches within the points colour - not the general body colour - bicolours/seychellois whatever people refer to them as.

I don't really understand your post, but any mating of siamese to bengal does not produce an oriental or a siamese!! Its a moggie

Thats what i was thinkingOr a Bengalese-entalNot to sound offensive Tb but your friend sounds like they're in the same position as the "breeder" they got their cat off,and tbh thinking the best advice they could get ifthey have a genuine love and passion for the breed/s is spay/neuter what they have, start from scratch when they learn enough, because i'd be very wary that she has been able to get an active stud/queen so easily and i know not everyone wants to breed for show but even so maybe you should chat with her about starting slow and understanding the basics such as colors, genes, lines and exactly what meezers are and Ori's and about registering etcAlso has she any idea what can happen with an unhappy stud or a calling girl,if you have no idea what your doing or what the breed is like-it's a bit of a shock and not always a welcome one

Re: siamese / oriental cats

Im not sure what you are talking about but I will say my question again its nothing to do with a mating I was giving you background of the women & her situation. A Oriental mated to a Bengal creates a Serengeti, a new bred of wild cat look-a-like so it isnt a moggy.

However a Siamese to a Bengal creates a cross breed, or moggy whichever you like to call it.

well first this lady said that the bengal cat she sold was accidental mated by her 'siamese', then she said that it is a 'blue pointed oriental'?

is there such a thing as a Blue pointed Oriental?

That the question.

Re: siamese / oriental cats

Just an alternative question - why are they trying to invent yet another breed what is the point in that Leave orientals as they are, leave bengals as they both breeds in their own right, what purpose does yet another cross breed serve ?
