moving house

Hi all I am moving house at the weekend and am a little worried about our cat, she is used to going out but im worried she wont find her way back, I am going to try and keep her in for a couple of days (is that long enough?) Im also worried about her using her litter tray again as she now goes outside.
Any advice would be greatly received. Am I worrying too much!!

Re: moving house

Keep her insdie for AT LEAST a week preferably 3. After two days she will still be confused and not know where to come back to.

Re: moving house

Hi,

I would keep her in for about two weeks then gradually let her have short spells in your new garden, that way she gets used to her surroundings and gets her scent around so she has more chance of finding her way back. Is she microchipped and if so have you changed her details to include the new address?

Good luck with the move!

Izzie

Re: moving house

Hi! I have recently moved and my cat was used to going out too.

I kept my cat in for 3 /4weeks and tbo he is still very wary about going out and am doing it very slowly -he only goes out for a couple of hours - they really need to get used to their surroundings inside first so they can scent it and feel secure and safe. Good luckxx As for the litter tray as long as your cat is litter trained he should be fine - what I did was put the litter tray out for him a few days before we moved so he could get used to it again and he was fine!! no accidents at all.x

Re: moving house

Thanks for your reply, we still have the litter tray out in case she needs it in the night as she has a strict curfew, but she prefers to wait, hopefully she will be fine.

Re: moving house

Whenever i have moved i have given my cats at least 2 weeks.
The i introduce them gradually to the out doors.
I go outside with them before a feed and talk to them while they are out.
I keep the back door open incase they get spooked then they will bolt into the house and not off down the road or over the fence.
I hope your settle quickly. Good luck with the move.

Thumbs down Re: moving house

When you're moving house, there's so much to think about - and through the business there can often be that nagging uncertainty about what it will be like in your new community... will you be able to find new friends, will the children settle.... And that's after you've found the house you like, chosen a school or nursery (and got the children a place there). Once you've decided on your area.
