I have a chip flap - it works off electricty not batteries though you can get one that does work off that.

I suggest you log on to the Pet-a-porte catflap forum (yes, it does have one) and ask the question whether others have cats who charge at it and how quickly it responds.

I am going to play devils advocate here and say that these cat flaps require a collar to be worn, and collars can be lethal!

I have dealt with two cats in the past year who have got their collars trapped around their front leg and believe me it is extremely painful and in some severe cases, I have heard that some cats have been pts as the wound has been so large it has not healed.

Waffles wears a fast release pink collar and she knows how to take it off

micro chip cat flaps work on the chip in your cat's neck and don't need collars.
