cant save them all

As some of you may know I control the lost and found section for Bristol CPL anyway...
I got a new phone at christmas that wasnt anything amazing but an upgrade from the last at least, I've had alot of missed calls from various people reporting strays/lost cats but none seemed to be leaving messages (at least this is what the phone lead me to believe)
Today I got a text from orange telling me to listen to my voicemail before the oldest message was deleted.
(bare with me i know my posts get lenghy)
So i just called the old 123 and turns out i have EIGHT new voicemails.....

I felt completley awful, they were all CPL related. Some from fellow volunteers that werent urgent, (some from completley random people saying the RSPCA had been giving out my number!) but one from a lady who I had previously tried to contact......

She said the cat I called about wasnt a stray it was owned by someone but completley being neglected, it is hungry covered in mess and skinny and flea ridden she said she had contacted the RSPCA and other animal control units but heard nothing back.
I felt that I needed to do something but then the next message came....
The same lady, the next day, saying the RSPCA had been in touch, come out and put the cat to sleep she was really grateful id even been in contact but i couldnt help but feel awful.

I dont want loads of sympathy, realistically even if I had spoken to the lady it wouldnt have made a difference because we dont work the same way as animal control people do. Perhaps i would have taken the cat in myself. I dont know.

I cant believe someone would treat a cat like this, and in the view of all thier nieghbours,

It isnt the first time somone has metioned how quick the RSPCA (never put a healthy dog down) actually do put animals down quite, im not happy about it, I mean, out of context to this actual event, what is classified as healthy and cant a cat/dog with health problems still live an active happy life with medication.
I dont know i'm just upset!

Oh that's such a shame, poor cat, I can't believe how some people treat animals, and I am so shocked at the RSPCA.

Re: cant save them all

its quite bad really because we dont have the facilities to just go and get a cat because we have no where for it to go, everyone that rings me has a moan about the RSPCA. I know they probably do alot of good, but being a household name and the first thing people think about when an animal is in bad nick they seem to have a bad rep

I guess that was easier than prosecuting the owner for neglect, which of course is what they would have done if the cameras had been rolling.

Re: cant save them all

i feel the rspca are rubbish, i rang to say about a dog who was barking day and night as the owner was leaving him out side with no shelter, no food the poor thing looked ill but the rspca would not respond to any of the phone calls that i made and my neighbors made it was really frustrating, you watch tv programs where they say for you to ring but when you do they really are not interested.

also one night in work there was a injured fox and again when we rang the rspca they said we had to catch it they would come out but only if we caught it. i tried to point out that we could not catch the poor thing, so they did not come out and the fox was left to die.

so the rspca is crap and i would never ring them again as they do nothing unless a tv camera is there to film.

Re: cant save them all

I wish the RSPCA would stop spending so much money on bloody adverts (they dont need to show us starving dogs for us to know that they exist - people are capable of looking up a phone number!) and spend it on staffing.

On a sidenote, i was watching animal 24/7 last week and at the end it says "Did you know if you're concerned about an animal at anytime, you can ring ANIMAL-247" Did anybody know about this? Does it just take you through to the RSPCA?

Re: cant save them all

That is sad and possibly the cat is better off. We'll never know, but i am not shocked by the RSPCA I think they are dreadful, when my cat had been hit by a car someone called them to come out and help her and 15 hrs she died in the garden she had fled to. It took over a week to find out what had haoppened to her as the RSPCA said they hadn't been called that weekend about a cat getting run over when in fact they had been called to 2 cats in that street!

They never even told the garden owners to knock a few neighbours doors and see if the cat owners were around.

Have you seen what they get in their pay though??

They are not doing it for the love of animals IMO!
I'm sure some are but NONE that I know of!

As they would no doubt have done if it had been a pretty pedigree, or if the cameras had been rolling.
