I have three 'mature' moggies and in 2007 introduced two kittens, Tigger and Tabitha, into Lumpland. Eventually they got on OK but Tigger and Tabitha spent their time together, washing each other, playing and snuggling.
Then last year I decided to let Tabitha have a litter. After they were born I carried Uncle Tigger in so he could see his nieces and nephew and he was clearly terrified. Once the kittens were older and playing he would come in, bolt down his food, and run out again. I felt awful. He does wander a lot anyway, but was out more than usual.
No longer did Tabitha and Tigger snuggle or play together - it was very sad

. I worried that Tigger was feeling lonely now and gave him loads of one-to-one time away from the kittens when he came in. He purred lots and seemed happy enough.
I kept three of the five kittens and they are now eight months so much bigger. I came in from work and went upstairs in the semi-darkness and noticed two heads in the cat basket where Tigger usually sleeps. When I put the light on there was Tigger with Mittens (one of the kittens) snuggled up together. I had tears in my eyes. It was so wonderful to see him with another feline companion again, rather than on his own.
I think for some reason he is scared of small beings as he ran away from my smallest bunny. He is a huge, ginger cat.
Tabitha and her three daughters have all been spayed so Tigger won't have to cope with any more kittens.
Just thought I would share that as it meant so much to me to see that Uncle Tigger is now able to enjoy his nieces and feel part of the Lumpland fur family again
