I am due to take my cat to the vets tonight but he meows and ends up panting - just wondered why he might do this as I end up quite distressed by the end of the journey as does he !

Mine are silent thankfully. You could always try feliaway or whatever its called, supposed to calm them

it's a sign of stress - he's telling you he's not happy - mine do this and a feliway spray seems to help.

As stated in other posts FELIWAY does work, it is a little expensive in most pet stores £27 in pets at home, but you can save yourself quite a few pounds if you buy it from ebay we payed £12 so a huge difference. good luck CHRIS

We took 2 of our lads to a show last week which was a 2 hour drive each way and thankfully didnt hear a peep out of them , im so glad they travel well , i can imagine how stressfull it could be for both driver and cat if they constantly cried.

No - mine WAIL!!!! On the bus it is embarrassing!

I had one as a child that used to do that. We frequently went on four hour journeys to see my grandmother, and Fluff used to ride on the back ledge of the car (remember those old saloon cars where there was a sort of ledge at the back for luggage?) - and yes he used to pant most of the way. Then from time to time he'd decide it was time to wander over to the front seats, then after a while he'd wander back again.

O boy, you'd be done for driving like that these days!

The mother of one of my cats does that when she is in a car. As a result she doesn't get shown often as she gets quite distressed.

Have you tried spraying the carrier with feliway before you travel, it may help.

One of my old cats Minette used to pant in the car, Murray cries until the car stops and Merlin & Jasper love being in the car and just want to have a nosey at whats outside lol. As suggested by others Feliway spray is really good I spray it on the blankets in their carriers. xxx
