Question Insurance

Hey again ^^

I was wondering who Insures your cat/s?
Has anyone got any tips on good companies or bad ones to stay away from?
And how much, very roughly, would you say I should pay for two young-mid age house cats?

I'm just putting out feelers and getting an idea of what to expect when I get my cat or cats. Hopefully I can afford to cope with two.

Re: Insurance

We had our old cat insured with Direct Line and it was a godsend. She had to have a leg removed, she had asthma and an overactive thyroid all of which were covered by the insurance. We claimed back about £2000 in total before she went on to catty heaven and there were never any queries. As someone else has said though, make sure they're covered for life and not just for a year per condition. You never know what is going to happen with cats regardless of whether they go out or not and it can be very expensive.

Re: Insurance

I use petplan. They are always really really helpful on the phone. I was a bit worried they would not pay out for Winstons tests which came to around £300 as i first took him to the vets 2 days after I got him and his insurance started but they paid it all with no quibles.

Re: Insurance

DONT GO with TESCO!

Our kitten at the time (july 17th 2008) was knocked over by a car, and was skinned from his knees down they have paid out £2.5k of his treatment but its cost us another £1.5k to get him sorted

they also only offer it for to pay out for the same condition for 12months

Im switching to pet plan for both of mine now because they pay out more and they have life time cover

Re: Insurance

I don't insure my boys but I do put £20 a month into a Cat-Kitty as I live in a terrible area for any form of insurance, for my moggy boys, both chipped and neutered it is £14 each with Pet Plan and they were the cheapest!! when I get my pedigree girl later this year it would be around £22 per month for her on current rates.

With this pet fund I know I have the money available and when it hits £2,000 I will stop paying in unless I use some, and even better it is gathering interest

Re: Insurance

I've just signed up my two, 8 and 6, with Tesco Essential plus Extra policy, which covers up to £4000 (I have an enclosed back garden so expensive orthopaedics very unlikely) - the cost for both is £11.71 a month, which is tons cheaper than anyone else
