Re: Which Breed For Me?

I am planning to go visiting.
I have several centres near me bursting at the seams with poor cats..including pedigree cats, at the moment
I was just having a good look into some of the breeds I like as well.

All of this may come to nothing when I walk into a rescue centre and some poor moggy decides it loves me and gives me those big eyes....

Re: Which Breed For Me?

wrong way round - you'll walk into the centre and immediately fall in love with a cat completely opposite to what you thougt you wanted

and then you'll live together happily ever after

Probably
Like the last time I went for a dog and was not allowed a big dog at the time.
We came home with a lovely big GSD.

Re: Which Breed For Me?

I have 3 ragdolls,1 birman and 2 short haired Moggies and I would say the worse far shedding fur would have to be my two short haired moggies and for the life of me I can't think why they would be the worst for it but they are.
I groom my ragdolls and birman everyday though so I think that has something to do with them not shedding so much.
Ragdolls are usually very very loving and like to follow you around and have a easy going nature and nothing really phases them. But like all cats they are cat at the end of the day and you do get some that are nothing like the things you read about the ragdoll to be.
I think it is very wise to read up and find out as much as possible on the breeds you like before leaping in head first.
Maybe contact some breeders and ask to see their cats so you can see if you really like that breed or not and when you have chosen the breed you want to go with the contact all of that breeds rescues and see if they have any in suitable for you.
If you do decide to go with the ragdoll then fill in the online form here UKRCC Adoption Form at the UKRCC which also get many other pedigree cat breeds in as well to see is you are a suitable home or not.
Good luck if you would like to know anything else about ragdolls and birmans then feel free to pm me.

Re: Which Breed For Me?

I've never had such a loving cat as my Birman - sheds a bit but if groomed every day (with a zoom groom) it is minimal (we get loads more outof our moggy and he is shorthaired and sheds everywhere! I'd recommend Birmans definately.

Re: Which Breed For Me?

I think Birman cats are so beautiful as well.
Are they a little less reliant on constant human company as Raggies?

Re: Which Breed For Me?

I have a ragdoll and a maine coon. They are both wonderful cats. With grooming Sassy(ragdoll) is fine. Milo (Maine Coon) doesn't shed as much. He is only 7 months however. Either is great. I also have a shorthaired tabby cat. He's a sweetheart as well.

Re: Which Breed For Me?

I'm sure this has been discussed many times before I joined this forum, but shouldn't we, as cat lovers, be encouraging people to rehome unwanted cats rather than buying kittens from breeders?
I have a pedigree and a rescued moggie, because I love Russians, but will rehome an unwanted one next time, or go without

Yes, there are huge amounts of homeless cats..and other animals.
I actually support several charities in the UK and all my previous dogs have been rescues...so will my cats.
However a lot of pedigrees are needing homes atm as well as loveable moggies.

Re: Which Breed For Me?

I wouldn't say birmans demand any less attention then ragdolls. They too crave human contact.
