Kitten troubles - 8 weeks old

Hey Everyone,

I've had this 8 week old kitten for a couple of days now, and i've got a few troubles.

Firstly the owner said she had been de-flead, Today pulled out a flea comb just to check and have currently pulled out 30 fleas I sometimes see the odd flea crawling on her face poor kitty! I guess the best way of dealing with this is taking her to the vets ASAP?

Secondly the place I picked her up from smelled heavily of cigarette smoke, my kitty smells of this , Im guessing this will eventually disappear but is there anyway of getting of removing it in the mean time?

And lastly she wont sleep in the bed i've made for her, even if it's near me. She will only sleep right next to me in my bed and gets up at 2am and stays awake for a couple of hours meowing if I dont play with her, meaning i get no sleep

Is it possible to change her sleep patterns, or should I just bear it until she gets older?

Here's a pic of her:

Thanks!

She will need to be deflead(frontline combo is good)if heavy infestation you will probably need to treat her 4/5 weekly for a while, this will stop breeding in your home also, she will need a good worming, panacur paste for 3 consecutive days,as fleas transmit wormiesas for the smell hopefully within a few days she will smell better

Aw bless her xx

Right, cure two things with one solution - a flea bath hun x

get some good flea shampoo and that'll get rid of the smoke smell aswell x

as for the sleep pattern thing, no chance hun lol x she's a kitten and was not ready at 8 weeks to leave mum so she will be clingy and up at all hours x Give her time to adjust and get older and she'll be fine x

Hello to you both and welcome, she is adorable-no wonder you fell for her Yes take her to the vets and get her generally checked out, they will be able to advise you on any concerns you have and worm her also-the 2 fleas and worms usually go hand in hand. Also i'm afraid i'd confine her to 1 easy to deflea room for now until she has been deflead, your whole house where she has been including bedding, soft furnishings hers and yours and your clothes that she's been on will have to be washed, otherwise your house will be infested and you will be covered in flea bites, put a radio or tv on low for her, know it's hard when she cries and she will but she will soon be flea free and if your consistent she will soon adapt to any routine you implement. Especially when she gets fussed over when your awake and with her. Also it's always a good idea for your own vet to see any new kitt that you get, just for your peace of mind

The owner said she had been de-fleaing and de-worming her, but then how would she have got flea's if this was true

Anyways just phoned my 24hr vet, and have booked her in for a checkup first thing tomorrow morning Im not letting her go upstairs yet, as she well infect our bedrooms.

Re: Kitten troubles - 8 weeks old

Perhaps they used something from a pet shop that wasn't much good?
