leather doesn't deter most cats - in fact the majority of mine would quite happily claw leather if i didn't tell them not to,lol! x
as for last comment regarding getting his car nicked by asbo's, i really don't think there's much need for that as the guy only wanted someone else's cat to leave his pride and joy alone x

has anyone actually thought about if the cat does damage the guys car? as in if he'll go round with an invoice for paint restoration etc x or if he is actually an animal lover?
it would just be better for a solution to be found between the car owner and the cat owner that will hopefully resolve things amicably x if things can be done to help situation from both sides then that would be good x

Re: Advice Needed Urgently

I think the truth of this post is the neighbour was in a bad mood and took it out on her by raving about her cat - wrong place at the wrong time.

It'll probably never be mentioned again.

If he does come round with a bill for scratches, ask him for photos of your cat scratching his car - you can't be expected to pay for scratches without evidence or everyone would be doing it!!

It's a crazy world out there, be careful!!!

could be right there x
it honestly depends i suppose on how many times he's found the cat sitting there aswell i think x
if it was one or two times i'd shoo it off - if alot more then i may talk to the cat owner x
my point was though he could come round with a bill and it may not turn out nicely with regards to having "friendly" neighbours anymore x so you can't expect to just sit back and ignore it sometimes x
sometimes you do have to see if there's anything that can be done x

hopefully in this case though it'll fizzle and be forgotten x

Re: Advice Needed Urgently

I think this has been said, but a cat wouldn't scratch a car unless it was scared away; for example, if he sees the cat on his car and runs out screaming at it, then yer the cat might scratch it, but still not that likely.

You could try getting a bucket, put a couple of garlic bulbs in it, fill it with boiling water, leave it until cold, remove garlic and pour the water over his garden (he may not like it, but really it's his problem). That may or may not work, but it might be worth a try.

Anyway why did he pay £38,000 for a BMW? BMWs are crap, you should tell him about good brands like Volkswagen or Audi.

Just incase your wondering, getting a bonnet (assuming that's where he/she sits) sprayed wouldn't cost the earth, I'd say £150 max, and that's an approved BMW spray shop. But a cat wouldn't get through all the paint layers anyway, so a T-Cut would be fine which I think are under £20.

If the car does get scratched, he has to prove it was your cat that scratched it in the first place! Your cat wont scratch it anyway, i would not worry about falling out with him, some pepople are just grumpy gits with nothing else to do but moan.I would just humour him and say you will have a stern word with your cat! or suggest he puts something on there to stop your cat going on it. I would not worry about it!

Re: Advice Needed Urgently

I had a neighbour many years ago who disliked cats, and preferred them not to go into her garden - she taught my young cat to stay out with a few well aimed splashes of water. It did him no harm, and he got the message extremely quickly - visited everyone else, but even jumped down onto the path rather than run along her wall. A not too powerful water pistol might do the trick - but better not spray the cat while it is actually ON the car, in case it does dig its claws in! You could make a gift of one to the car owner, proving you are doing all you can.

I had a pony once who chewed up another neighbour's motorbike. He left it within reach, and the pony obviously liked the feel of biting through the seat. I had to wait several hours for the chap to come home so I could explain - fortunately he saw the funny side, and we went shares on the repairs. All my friends were very wary about where they parked after that though - and the pony used to get a definite gleam in his eye when a bus went by!

Ooops - Oh well - wonder how it all turned out? Who knows, perhaps it was the start of a beautiful friendship!
