Which cat flap is better to buy?

Once my Tabs starts going out I want to get a cat flap fitted but there are so many different ones, I have been looking at the microchipped ones as she is being microchipped on Tues but they are so expensive, does anyone have any ideas?

Re: Which cat flap is better to buy?

Hi Rach,
This is the one i have
http://www.netpetshop.co.uk/p-16686-...-in-white.aspx
I find it great, the trouble with the magnetic ones is they don"t always work if the cats collar isn"t laying in the correct position, a friend of mine had one and her poor cat was always sitting out side waiting to be let in ! she also said he kept losing the magnet and it got expensive to replace. hope this helps x

Thanks Kim

Do you get any problems with other cats using it as well?

Re: Which cat flap is better to buy?

Microchip ones have the advantage of not needing a collar but you need to check the chip works (thermochips where a vet can scan for the cat's temperature are aproblem).

There are 2 types: electrical mains and batteries. The latter are sold via vets or net and work on batteries and are slightly cheaper.

If you don't have any other cats that seem to want in to your house why not try for a really cheap cat flap (like 10.00 or such from P@H). If you web the microchip ones and measure up (templates downloadable as worddoc) then later on if you have a problem with other cats you could upgrade!
