Tomorrow (It's midnight) so Sunday is a very special day too!!
Well I am sure you can see where I am going with this, it's Effie's happy home day birthday on Sunday!!! Which as it is midnight is tomorrow now!!!
So for those of you that read part one Ella cried all night and was very lonely and ended up in the bed with us. The next morning she was very whiny and followed us around a lot and sensing my partners thawing to Ella, I said "Ella would probably be happier if she had a mate" and he said YES. So we went on gumtree and had a look at some of the kittens for sale but they were all over priced but there was two black kittens being sold in South London that I could afford (Ella had broken the bank) I went over as I got to the flat's it was quite a rough estate. A guy opened the door and it was one of those moments where you don't feel perfectly safe. He pulled Effie and her sister, who were both jet black out of the box. They looked strangly, skinny and not that healthy. Their coats looked mangled. He pointed at the mum and said that's the mum and a mangy unhappy looking cat stared back at me. I looked at the two black kittens and couldn't tell them apart and was in a quandry, I didn't have enough money to get both, getting Ella and this new cat hadn't really been planned and it turned into an expensive weekend. I had to make a choice so I went for the scrawnier one. In my heart I didn't really want a black cat but getting a mate for Ella was important as we would be going to work tomorrow and the thought of her crying on her own all day would upset me. The guy held out his hand for the money and then just thrust the black srawny cat into my arms and opened the street door. I tucked her into my jacket and suddenly thought how the hell am I going to get her back to North London? As I walked down the road the little one was shaking and was trying to wriggle free, I got a cab and looked at this not very pretty scrawny cat and though "oh, Ella is so beautiful compared to you, look at her..." Anyway I stroked her and she sat there looking at me, with weepy eyes, looking sad. I called my partner and explained what she looked like and knew he and Ella were waiting for us.As soon as I walked through the door, I put Effie in the litter tray and she went a wee, which pleased us as we had two clean kittens. Sean came to look at her and said "bless her, she looks a bit bedraggled" Ella came running down the stairs and launched herself onto an unsuspecting black kitten. Newbie hissed a bit and ran under the chair (I had told OH to leave Ella upstairs to let black mog get used to us first but hey!) Black cat was under the chair with Ella tapping her from time to time. I said, I am not sure whether I wanted a black cat and OH said "why did you get her" and I said "Look at her, she needed us, if I had had 20 quid more I would have got her sister (lord knows how I would have got them back as I woulnd't have had cab money!) I often hope her sister found a home and as I have seen other litters from this house for sale since I am sure their not very looked after cat gives birth A LOT for extra income". Anyway Ella wanted to play but black cat wasn't having it. I said to OH what shall we call her. We went round and round loads of names and suddenly an advert for Dreamgirls the movie came on TV. I loved that movie and had been playing the album non stop...what about "Effie" she is black after all ![]() Effie was named and very soon we placed a towel on the floor and the two kittens that still weren't getting along, exhausted by their first minutes of play collapsed, at opposite ends of the twoel. Slowly they edged together and cuddled up and me and the OH had tears in our eyes, we said our family was complete. ![]() We noticed staright away Effie had an appetite on her, I think she hadn't been getting a lot of food, she soon filled out and started to put on weight. Compared to the EVER vocal Ella, Effie didn't miaow and was a bit stand offish.....for a couple of weeks. So what about Effie now, well "Stand offish" Effie NEVER leave OH's side. She still doesn't miaow but makes weird pigeon noises and whines. She hates being in a room alone. If she has been alseep and we have left the room without her noticing and Ella is upstairs, she will cry like we have left her....."No Effie, we are upstairs like we are EVERY NIGHT" so she comes and finds us. Never has a cat wanted to be stroked more. She will whine to get your attention, back up on her hind legs like a meer cat and normally topple over. She never leaves my OH side and if we are both sat down she will go backwards and forwards to the two of us for attention. She loves her sleep and the straggly coat is now beautiful and where I wasn't keen on a black cat, I know love them and think Effie is beautiful. She has a beautiful face and everyone who sees her says she looks like a proper girl. So what have I learnt about Effie in the last year * Effie has excitable stages where she runs around like a loon and then can't remember why she is running around so she runs around some more * She makes the oddest piegon noises when she wants attention *She pretends she has been awake for hours when you get home from work but her eyes are still closed despite the fact she is walking *If you touch her stomach when she is alseep she will roll over on her back for her tum to be stroked (Ella never does but Effie loves it) * She decides when we wake up and doesn't understand weekends are for lie in's. Just the weekday when our alarm goes off she tears in with much excitment and knocks us over with enthusiasm. *She loves licking us(again Ella never does!) * Wheras Ella is agile and jumps and climbs, Effie is a little less self assured and just bulldozes her way THROUGH things that Ella would jump over. She is a wonderful and loving cat and I can't believe that the straggly girl is the beauty that is laying next to me now, whilst I type this. She is a lot bigger and sturdier than Ella and it strikes me when i look at her that she is not a kitten anymore! Happy 1 year home day Effie!! |
