Lack of Sleep

Has anyone any advice for trying to get your cat to sleep all night. Since christmas my cat has been coming into my room and waking me up to play at 4am! She's too cute to shout at and too small to put outside at this stage. Has anyone else experienced this?

Re: Lack of Sleep

make sure she can't get into your room. She is not too young to be put into a sperate room on her own at night. Mine have never been allowed into the bedroom at night and Mai Tai sleeps in the conservatory with no access to other rooms. Gizmo sleeps on the stairs and will only come into the bedroom if he wants to go out. I have never been woken by them wanting to play even when Giz was a kitten.

Re: Lack of Sleep

you need to get a kind of routine going with him, like say about 9pm you pop him in a room and shut the door, if you do this every night he will soon learn he has to go to sleep as there is nothing else left to do. my cats sleep with my son but when they have kittens they stay in the kitten room for the first 5 weeks then i bring them down during the day but when it hits 8pm they go back up and to be honest i have never had a problem, and i think this helps them to know day and night. i could be wrong just it has worked for me.

Re: Lack of Sleep

You need to tire him out before going to bed! Kittens are like real babies.... They will eventually sleep though. Dexter is now sleeping on our bed from 10pm to 6.30am and getting better.

Re: Lack of Sleep

I have to agree with lymorelynn. I got Waffles at nine weeks old and from her very first night she was shut in the kitchen alone. I didn't like doing it but I knew that I had to otherwise she would 'rule' bed time.
Just lock your kitty away at night - expect some meowing but as long as there is water down and food (if that is part of your routine) then ignore the meowing.

I sometimes think that they can be as bad as babies.

Waffles always seems to come alive at night as well, like most cats, so you should shut your kitty away if you don't wnat to be woken up.

Re: Lack of Sleep

Yeah I believe it is best to establish bedtime as alone time from cats,
Mine used to keep me up all night crying and i had to leave the TV on for him.
Ours now spend the odd night in with us until the wee hours when they make too much noise and i wake the OH up to kick them out.
