One of my boys gets tiny little mats underneath as we have underfloor heating and he gets hot. The stitch breaker is very good and doesn't hurt them at all.

Im sure there are others on here that have used the matt breakers and who can advise you better.

Thanks for the stitch breaker idea we tried it this morning on a difficult knot and it works beautifully splitting the knot so that we can tease it out The kitten just lay there on her back and seemed to enjoy us releasing the knot and then she ran in the kitchen for a treat afterwards, Love her to bits

You are very welcome Im glad it worked, we had a knot on one of ours in the nether regions and it worked a treat in getting it out, I wouldn't be without mine now.

Hi,

Does she roll around on your carpets alot? My youngest lies on the floor but as its underfloor heating he gets the tiniest little knots and Im forever grooming him lol. The other two don't tend to knot in the same way.

Re: Knots in long haired cats

We also bought a brush from Boots. Its called a Tangle Teaser with two bristle lengths on the same brush in soft platic. It is ideal for long haired cats and my cat loves being brushed with it. It definately works in smoothing out the undercoat to avoid knots starting up. This brush was on TV on dragons den for smoothing out tangles in human hair and was not sold for pets but
the hairdresser who designed it spent 3 years testing it out before he launched it and it definately does seem to work on cats.

The ones on the back of the legs are tough aren't they? They absolutely hate me doing them ones, If they are getting upset I just use a few drops of Bach rescue remedy, give it 20 mins or so and try again, you can even put the rescue remedy cream on your hands so they are actually benefitting from it while you are actually grooming, I also give them a brush to play with while Im grooming it keeps them distracted lol. The grooming is worth it when
they look so gorgeous when they are finished. I have a comb called the trimmfit, it doesn't actually trim the fur but it does remove alot of dead fur before I do a bath or show grooming session.

Re: Knots in long haired cats

Hi

Is that her in the pic? That is a really lovely cat.

I have found with my boys if I can just keep them nice and calm grooming is a doddle, we have one that hates the baths though, he wets himself so we try and do it as quickly as possible. I have only shown him twice because of that reason. Luckily he doesn't get too greasy which helps

Do you show your cats?

Izzie
