Your opinions

Me and my mum go to wales six times a year or so.

We only bring out cats in the summer, other than that they are left alone, and one of our neighbors breeds the twice a day.

They are fine with this, we ring everyday to make sure they are well. They are well trained, the have access to the back garden but know not to go into the front.

When we get our siamese cat, I was thinking it might not be such a good idea to leave it, due to it being pedigree and things.

Mum was thinking of bringing it up to Wales with us each time, but the only thing is would it then have to get used to our current cats each time again?

Just asking, please dont shout at me for asking

Re: Your opinions

Why would anybody shout at you for asking a question???

I have four months experience with cats so I'm probably not the best to ask on here but I shouldn't think that you would have to reintroduce your cat each time it is removed. I'm sure it will remember everything and be perfectly fine.

Re: Your opinions

Just out of interest why would you not be able to leave the new cat with it being pedigree? Surely it makes no difference if its a pedigree or moggie you leave at home. Are you not able to take all of the cats with you or instead leave all of them at home...its seems a bit unfair that one gets to go on holiday and the others don't

Re: Your opinions

It's a sensible question and you are right to think about possible difficulties, sometimes you can have problems if one cat has just been at the vets overnight. They recognise each other so much by smell, and one that has a new smell could need time to settle back in with the group. Sometimes you can rub some baby powder into all their coats so they all smell the same, or you can take some bedding and swap it over so they get each other's smell on them.
If you are aware of the possibility, and are careful with reintroduction, then hopefully there won't be a problem
Cats can vary so much in their reactions, and a lot depends on their individual personality and also on the closeness of the bond they have with each other.
There are products you can buy to help ease moments of tension like reintroductions. Some people find feliway diffusers or sprays helpful

Re: Your opinions

Thank you. Usually we go away for around a week two 2 weeks. In the summer we go for 5 weeks so would take them all.

@ little miss kitty - I always want to take all my cats when we go to wales, but it is a bit difficult caring three cats let alone four. The only reason I would take the pedigree with me, is not because I would love it more but because being a pedigree it is more likely to get stolen.

We have decided not to show the cat, or breed. So it will be only a family pet. We will let it out into the garden, however we are going to look at closing off one area of the garden, that if you climb across, and jump down and walk left for a bit (if you are a cat) and climb underneath the gates leads onto the road outside my house. It is not a main road but still has cars so..

Our cats are very adventurous and I would be letting it into our garden with the right precautions, anyhow think it may be better taking it with me.

Smile Re: Your opinions

Who are you expecting to steal your ped; the neighbour you've asked to feed it? Personally, if it ends up forming a close bond with your other kitties, I would leave it at home with your other cats so it feels more secure, or send them all off to a trusted cattery together for their own mini holiday. Also, I would consider not going away to Wales quite as often anymore, as, I believe Siamese are quite needy and love the human company, so might get disturbed by your regular trips away (these are the kinds of sacrifices us ped owners have to put up with sometimes ), whether you take it with you or not.

Re: Your opinions

Why treat your siamese better than your mogs? mine are all treated the same as in I wouldn't leave any of mine for just a neighbour to come and feed. Sorry but that is just me.
