Why is my cat this colour???
Hello all,
I posted this question in the wrong forum!! Anyway, i have a 4 month old kitten who is coloured like a chocolate siamese only with very dark grey points. But still with the ice blue eyes and short fur. She was also born white and developed these points later. Her fur is now a creamy colour rather than the white. The strange thing is that she was bred form my tabby girl and a black male. I understand with moggies that backgraound is pretty much unknown, but i known both cats families for a long time and there has never been siamese or any breed like that in either gene pool!!! In mums first litter she had one of thses beauties then in her second (this litter being an accident, albiet a happy one!) she had two!! I have now had her spayed, much to the despair of many people i know!! I'd love to hear if anyone has had similar happenings!! Last edited by Acacia86; 31-12-2008 at 01:56 PM.. |

Re: Why is my cat this colour???
Hi
Your kitten sounds gorgeous, please post a pic! the siamese gene is recessive, so both parents must carry it in order to produce a pointed kitten. Recessive genes can be carried for many generations without being noticed - in fact there is a well known saying amongst cat breeders - "recessive is forever". ![]() Quote:

Re: Why is my cat this colour???
I had a half-pedigree litter once (half Burmese) where one of the kittens turned out like this:
abigail.jpg I never did find out who Dad was! Liz |

Re: Why is my cat this colour???
Yes indeed - and by the hair length (which was longer than a Burmese) clearly Dad wasn't Siamese. I am rather embarassed to confess that daughter herself had an accidental litter, apparently mating back to her father because two of her kittens were clearly cs cs (wish I could find pictures but it was about 15 years ago and they are probably lost) with a similar hair length. Despite putting up "do you know who our Daddy is?" posters with pictures, I never did find out.
After that I tried breeding on from daughter properly, registered her and all that, but then I lost her kittening when I took her for an emergency caesarean one evening when she was obviously in trouble, and the $%*%$ vet did nothing at all until the next morning! Liz |
