radiator beds

Just HAD to share this

neeps has discovered the joy of her new radiator bed (the cats crimbo present)... although to get her to use it instead of the couch we have to move the cushions off the couch

buying the radiator bed has had an unfortunate side effect tho...neeps now uses it as a hi-hide, bub's has to walk past/under it to get to the kitchen from the living room. neeps lies down.. pretends to sleep..waits for bubs to walk past then..... SURPRISE AMBUSH FROM ABOVE!!! neeps has turned into commando kitty! it's hilarious!! she still SOMEHOW manages to do it all in slow motion.

needless to say bubs dislikes the radiator bed, she prefers the bean bag...it's assassin proof; if neeps touches it the bean bag makes noise to alert bubs to the danger lol.

Re: radiator beds

lol...seems like your cats have it sussed. Those radiator beds look great. Very snug and wont take up too much room.

joote

I'd love the radiator bed if you still have it. I live in an old house - with the older style radiators

I have eight cats and a stray who sleeps in more often than not now it is colder. I have just bought a third radiator bed but there is still a queue to use them. Mine use them in the summer as well as the winter and absolutely love them.

I'd be happy to send you a cheque or stamps or something for the postage costs.

Re: radiator beds

The vets told me that you shouldnt buy radiator beds or keep cat or dog beds close to a radiator because it damages ther kidneys.

Re: radiator beds

the rad beds keep the cat almost a foot from the radiator.

however, i dont' see how the heat would damage the kidneys, they're not physically touching the radiator and will move if too hot, there would be less heat absorption from a radiator on a rad bed or in a floor bed than a cat would get basking in the sun, sitting in front of a fire or on an aga. so shouldn't be detrimental to the cat as alot of the heat goes straight up, a small amount is convected horizontally, and little will be transfered down the rad bed. This would of course depend on how hot you have your rads our's are at most 20 degrees.

If you speak to your vet again, could he point me to literature on it? i'm a biologist (marine bio, but still interested in all things) i'd love to read up on it! (no sarcasm here, i'm genuinely interested). I'd be surprised if it did much damage if any as cats have been lying on warm things for centuries, if it did them harm i'd expect more cats to have kidney problems and no heated bed products for cats at all.

I think this was the best thing i've ever bought neeps absolutely loves it, we've started calling her jabba cat now, she reminds us of jabba the hut on his plinth lol
