New Kitten??

I would like some advice please!!

I have three cats at the moment (2 brothers aged 1.5yrs and a male 7month old kitten). I have had a call from the rescue centre I got them all from saying they have had a huge intake of kittens in the last week and wondered if I would be willing to take another one?

I absolutely love cats and would love to take another one but I am not sure if 4 cats would be ok? I live by myself and only have a 2 bed house. The three cats I have at the moment are all outdoor and the 7month old kitten we think is deaf.

Does anyone have any advice on this??

This would very much be appreciated.

Re: New Kitten??

No reason at all why they shouldn't be fine. I once had 11 cats in a bedsit flat

Re: New Kitten??

Well, as long as you have enough attention for all of them i dont see the problem!
Oviously you need to consider vets bills ect as well, but as long as you're financially stable for another one than help the shelter out.
The most important thing when buying a cat is to remember its life span can be up to 20 years or more, you obviously know this but some people forget and its harder to rehome a 3 -4 yr old or older cat than it is a kitten!
I get so sad when people are leaving the country ect so need to rehome!

It would be nice to have all your cats around the same age group they'll get on very well, however you sound like a true cat lover and in a few years might get the kitten urge again! If you get broddy at the sight of kittens you might want to pace yourself

Re: New Kitten??

Thanks for your replies. I wasnt thinking of getting another one at all until I got the phone call! I wish they hadnt phoned! I am just not sure. I work full time and the cats all sleep all day and then when I get home I feed, re-water and plpay with them for around 1-2 hours before I have to off to my evening cleaning job. Do you think this would be ok for the new kitten?

George and Gus are the oldest brothers and Milo the kitten. George took to Milo straight away, George loves everything and is very laid back, my mum has two dogs and George loves it when they are over as he has someone else to play with, George also lets Milo suckle him as if he was his mother!

Gus, on the other hand, took around 3weeks to come round to Milo. He never attacked him but everytime Milo went to sniff him, he hissed and ran away. Finally, after around 3 weeks Gus started sniffing Milo and since then have been great mates.

I am so confused!

Re: New Kitten??

Does the rescue know your working hours If so I am confused to why they think you are a suitable home for a kitten as kittens need to be feed 4 times a day and you can't do that if you work all day and then go back out at night.
If I was you I wouldn't get one as if you have to many cats in a small space you get toilet and behavioural problems and end up with stressed out un happy cats.

Hey what's another little mouth to feed? I would advise though that boy cats get along better together than girls. There seems to be less of a hierarchy amongst males, whereas girls bitch and fight for position within the home. I'd say go for it, I only have a 2 bed house and 13 cats all indoors

Re: New Kitten??

Personally if you do have any doubts I would hold off. Deep down you probably know whether you really do want another one or not. You sound like you have a lot on your plate at the moment.
