Re: Indoor Cats ?????

Don't think you'll ever get a difinitive answer on this one! We have always let our cats out and always will. But we live in a rural location with no main roads and surrounded by countryside. In 15 years and 6 cats we have never had a problem with disease, foxes, neighbours, kids, theft, loss etc. They come and go as thay please. Day or night.

If you are worried (and it's aways a worrying time when you let them out for the first time) then what about making the back garden cat proof? There are special fences and guards that can make a little cat haven for you.

Re: Indoor Cats ?????

Hi and welcome. I'm glad reading through that you've decided to keep your two inside. I'm sure they'll be happy.
I have one indoor Siamese kitten and one outdoor black moggy but having lost a young Siamese cat on our very quiet, rural lane last year, I have decided that my new kitten will only be going out on a harness. She is jst far too curious to go out on her own.
I love the pictures of your two!
Snowshoes are related to Siamese - a bit like Birmans only with shorter coats. they were originaly bred in America crossing a Siamese with an American bi-colour shorthair.
Ragdolls I think are related to Persians but I'm not sure of the breeding involved.

Re: Indoor Cats ?????

keep them in. especially as in the other thread you say your snoeshoe cross is to be entire as you are breeding him. let him out and he'll wander a long way and have sex with all the girls and could catch anything.

Re: Indoor Cats ?????

hi x

i have the same dilemma as you! my two babies have never ever shown any interest at all on going out side, but a little part of me feels really really mean keeping them indoors!! i know i would worry to death about them while i was at work, i love in a lovely area but you just never know whos out there or if a car would just run over one of them in an accident,

I would die if anything happened to either one of them. My OH wants to keep them in for ever as he is very protective over his babies!!

I think i will look into cat proofing our garden or look into a run for them as i know they would love it in the summer, laying about in the sunshine! but for now they are defiantly indoor pusses x

PS your cats are stunning, so beautiful!!! i bet they get very spoilt!!

Cat proofing or a run would be an excellent way to go I think - you both sound like really caring and responsible cat-slaves. And fab that you are here wanting to get advice.

Lightbulb Re: Indoor Cats ?????

Some cats really do enjoy being outdoors, though (my little Mau kitten really does!), so it is nice if they can get to see the outside world from time to time if you're able. A great idea is a cat run, or if can cat-proof your garden, even better. I take mine out on a harness, which she really enjoys. Personally, I wouldn't let a cat of mine outdoors unsupervised, but that's just me (I'd be too afraid she got stolen or attacked by the foxes in the neighbouring cemetery. ).
