Barneys breathing & coughing, need some advice :S

I took Barney to the vets last friday as we had become very concerned about the fact that his breathing is extremely fast & had been having these coughing-like fits.. He was diagnosed with having a fever (weve only had him 3 weeks now & he was homeless when we rescued him so he couldve picked anything up from being outside for so long - we dont know his history) so he was given antibiotics. Now although the coughing seems to be less often we are still worried that his breathing is way too quick than what it should be. He's only got today & tomorrows tablets left to take so im ringing the vet tonight for his advice - he may just give him some more or stronger tablets or might want me to bring him in again which is fine.
I just wanted to ask if any of you had had similar experiences with any of your cats or any extra info i could get? Barney seems well in himself, doesnt seem poorly and is eating, drinking & being extremely playfull at the moment (hes only around 5 months old) it really is just the breathing that worries us..
