Help

It turns out Lilly doesnt know what a litter tray is she'd done her toilets on my bed yuk iv placed what she done in her tray and put her in the bathroom with it ( the only place i can think where there is nothing to dig other than her litter ) and dont worry seat lid is down lol, i could do with lots of help with this as Every cat iv had has been fully litter trained even Loki hasnt had a acciedent anywhere and i always got told tom cats was worse for it,

anyway i also checked out her paper work ( wormer flea etc dates ) and it turns out from what me and my partner has worked out she was born xmas day which only puts her in the 6/7 weeks of age ( but she is as big as Loki shes HUGE ) is the not using a litter normal at this age or is it just stress of new home etc? and how can we encurrage her that the tray is the place for her toilets?
she has come out of her shell this morning and is very forward and not shy iv the scratches to prove it lol so as far as settling in goes she is on the right track .

Re: Help

oh no she is only 7 weeks!
oh well she is in a great home with you
i think it is a good idea putting her business back in the box so she knows, but as soon as you see her squatting, digging etc put her in her tray and gently grab her paw and sort of dig with it, then if she does it, give her a reat she should get the idea!!!!

its great to hear she is settling in well!cant wait to see piccies!

Re: Help

I now i was very shocked to see that she is so young iv contacted the breeder and told her i wasn't happy but i ain't taking her back now the deeds done so to speak,
i feel really bad as iv had to leave her in the bathroom for now as iv gotta go out and she's crying i feel a right bully but am also thinking that while am out the time in there she might need to go potty and cause the litter tray is the only thing she can dig in that she might get the right idea but then cats/kittens always have different ideas to us humans lol

iv tried the thing with her foot and she seems worried about the litter and tries to get out as fast as she can but then walks around the room crying, do you think it could be the feel of the litter she don't like and that newspaper on the bottom might be better for now?

Re: Help

I would give her several trays with different types of litter and keep a close eye on her. At that age they are not confidently litter trained, though they should know what a tray is for. Mind you it doesn't sound like the person you got her from put much effort in, so unlikely she would have taken time to litter train them. I find kittens prefer the woodchip litter as it is softer on their paws.

You might find she prefers a covered tray as she is insecure in her environment at the moment and probably wants privacy. I wouldn't use newspaper as she needs to learn that litter is the stuff to go in not paper. You can get litter attract cat litter that is supposed to tempt them to use a tray, I don't know if it works though.

Best of luck

Re: Help

Poor baby

It's mainly the Mum cat who litter trains her kittens, not the breeder, so I can only assume the breeder did not provide a suitable tray!

Re: Help

Poor little mite

I've read good things about 'Kitten Attract' litter - might be a bit expensive to start with but might held her be attracted to using the litter tray and once used to it, you can phase in another litter

Kitten Attract Premium Clumping Cat Litter 2 x 9kg. With Herb Additive.: Amazon.co.uk: Pet Supplies

Re: Help

I'd let her out of the bathroom and just watch for the signs of her wanting to go (looking for a hiding place or scratching the floor for example) and plop her on the tray. I agree that it might not be in the right place for her, so I'd put it somewhere more 'private'. I'd also wash your bedding with biological powder so that she doesn't make any unfortunate associations with your cosy bed! x

she was put in there cause i had to go out and my other kitten Loki is being bit of a bully with her atm so not really leaving them together alone till it settles and i wasnt going to leave her in my bedroom lol and the bathroom was the next safest place i could think

i use the wood litter already iv also found for kittens is much more better than the grit ones

got extra litter trays now and might seem silly but theres one now on my window sill as she wee'd on there yesterday so thought just in case lol

beddings changed mattress turned (just incase) and fresh is on
