Grrr - some people

I've just return from visiting a friend in the US and when I first got there we got talking about cats when she said she would be getting one on her return to the UK in a few months.

I said I could give her details of my breeder and she said "Oh, I'm not getting a pedigree - I would never pay any money for a stupid cat". I explained that rescues would want something for a cat anyway as a donation. She then went on to say she would have to find one from an advert in any case as a breeder or a rescue wouldn't let her have one that was 6 weeks old. I tried explaining why kittens shouldn't be taken away from mum and litter mates so early but she kept saying her parents had always got them that young and that it may even not be fully weaned at that age. I have to say I eventually got a bit upset and told her I thought it was bordering on animal cruelty but she just wouldn't listen. I even ended up saying that even if she didn't believe me, could she just wait for at least 9 weeks kind of as a favour to me. She just laughed and said it wouldn't be cute enough and she didn't want an old one like mine were (12 and 16 weeks).

She also said she wouldn't need a litter tray because she wouldn't allow it to do it's business inside. I explained that she would need one for the first couple of months while it was a kitten and she looked at me as if I was crazy. She'll be letting the poor thing go out from day one, at 6 weeks old.

It's really upset me know but there is nothing I can do about it. It ended up putting a really downer on my holiday as I've lost a lot of respect for her now.

There was another girl there, who doesn't want cats but completely agreed with her and said that's what people who aren't crazy cat ladies do

Re: Grrr - some people

Itīs rally incredible how some people are not open to the fact that the way they do things is not correct. I woudnīt even know where to start on your friend. My cat is completely indoors but if he wasnīt heīd have a tray inside so he can spend time wherever he wanted to. Tell her to get a teddy instead. Poor future cat.

Well, I'd rather be a mad cat lady than mistreat a young animal, which is what she is proposing. Poor little mite.

I kind of hope she doesnt get one.....

I hope you've got room for another cat because when it isn't cute enough anymore, she will want to offload it. The only way she is getting one at six weeks is from a back yard breeder, who will not be giving it away.

Don't worry. I am working on getting the human race split into two different species - the proper ones and the ones who should be put down. I don't think there will be many of us left

O...M...G.....

I don't think it will last very long in her 'care' if it's going outdoors at 6 weeks!!!!! I hope you told her how many times it would poo and pee on the floor if she didn't even provide a litter tray..... what on earth does she want a cat for anyway if that's how little she cares for them???

She may be in for a shock as to how destructive a tiny kitten can be, especially one on its own. I was SO glad we got Jumpy, and at 4 months old, as my Dad found Treacle a handful when he was tiny, he got into everything!! Bigger kittens really are easier in many ways!! I really hope she doesn't get one or it sounds like it will need rescuing from her!!!!

Because they're cute, obviously. Anyway, if you let a young kitten outside at that age it is going to disappear isn't it? It won't know it's way home, and hopefully some kind person will take it in and give it a proper home.

If I saw a kitten that young out, that is what I would do. I would figure that the owner didn't deserve it anyway.

Re: Grrr - some people

i wonder if when these type of people have children they ask the nurses if they could have the baby early due to the fact full term babys aint cute anymore!! Yet its perfectly fine to do it to a kitten!!! That they will no doubt want to get rid of it at around 6months old!!! Again i wonder how many people have tried to return their 6month old babys cos they no longer have that new born smell !!!!
