Re: Grrr - some people

I am totally traumatised by this information. What an awful situation to end up in for you. I don't have anything productive to say other than this girl needs a good slap.

Again i wonder how many people have tried to return their 6month old babys cos they no longer have that new born smell !!!!
Knowing how some people treat their babies, I wouldn't be a bit surprised.

Re: Grrr - some people

Make sure you keep in touch with her when she returns.

Coz then you can PM her address to me - don't be surprised if you find her going through a number of kittens because they all mysteriously keep disappearing....

On a more serious note though - it's people like this who insist on perpetuating the Urban Myths of cat care and welfare that keeps the treatment of these beautiful animals in the dark ages.....

Re: Grrr - some people

Well I'm sorry,I know she's your friend but what a stupid mare! The sad thing is that there's no way of stopping her from getting a cat,it's so easy for anyone who is determined whether they're "suitable" or not.I hope you do keep in touch with her ,just for the sake of being on hand for that poor little kitten.

Re: Grrr - some people

Some people really don't have a clue You gave her advice and she totally ignores it and thinks she knows best I just put it down to pure ignorance

I really hope she doesn't get a kitten.

Re: Grrr - some people

i would do this - let her try and find some moron who would let a 6 week old kitten go (although i found one without realising it! )

then as soon as she's home, give a quick check as to if she has litter trays etc (ie - doing the right thing by the tiny kitten). if she's not, and lets the kitten out - would do my damndest to take the kitten without her realising, or simply report her to the RSPCA..

my god, lets hope she doesn't get her cruel hands on one...i know i did but at least i love and care for mine...and didn't do it intentionally

Id be up for this, just let me know when & where.

She must have a low IQ to beleive the things she said, I guess you have to feel sorry for one so stupid, and what does she think a 6week old 600gram kitten will do when she puts it in the garden?

She wouldnt be my friend anymore I tell you that! But stay close to her and try and give her information or as above

She'll be letting the poor thing go out from day one, at 6 weeks old.

There was another girl there, who doesn't want cats but completely agreed with her and said that's what people who aren't crazy cat ladies do
This is how I got my first cat, about 16 years ago. My next door neighbour had the same mentality. I moved in October, and took her 6-8 week old kitten with me - it had been sitting out side in the cold weather crying to go in.

So I let her in, and fed her, then put her round my mums for a week while I moved house.

Rosie lived with us for a while then moved next door (at my new house). They were retired, they had Leo (the biggest spoilt ginger tom I have ever seen), and had lost their other cat a month or so before I moved. I think fresh chicken and fish every day were more appealing than Asdas own cat food and a boisterous 2 year old!

I didnt take Rosie (as I named her) because I wanted a cat - I didnt. I took her because there was no way I was leaving her to that life.

When my neighbours moved to sheltered accomodation they still asked me if it was OK to take Rosie with them - this was about 10 years later, and I had told them numerous times I was happy for them to be Rosies owners.

If your friend gets a 'cute little 6 week old kitten', I imagine (and hope) there will be many people out there that would do the same thing.

Saying that, I really really hope your friend doesnt get an animal of any kind - she doesnt seem like the kind of person that would put their best interests first.

If that makes me a 'crazy cat lady' - well i wear that badge with pride

Re: Grrr - some people

I'm so glad people here agree with me. I was starting to think I was over reacting. I can't get it out of my head. I'm going to talk to her again when she gets back, when I am more prepared with what I want to say. I think I will play the angle of what difficulties it will cause her, eg they like to travel alot and will need to keep sending it to a cattery costing them money, might damage her furniture in her brand new house etc. I think that might be the way to talk her out of getting a cat at all.

For the person that said she must have a low IQ, she's a highly educated, highly intelligent individual. I actually don't think she cares. She did keep saying "it's just a cat".

I will have to stay in touch with her for various reasons (shared friends, work etc) so at least I will be able to check up on the little thing if she does get it.

I also spoke to her boyfriend today. He really doesn't like cats and he's going to try to talk her out of it.

Honestly don't know why she wants one.
